Anyone who owns a GoPro HD2 there is a new update for the camera which gives you 35Mbits bitrate and a few other additions under "Protune"

Just a word of caution though, using Protune gives you a very flat, they call it "Neutral" video.

I have done some preliminary testing in PD11 and have found the extra Mbits are allowing me to use higher editing settings.

My normal setting in PD to get my GoPro video to pop was 1/4-1/2 "VideoEnhance."

With Protune activated it appears that the video stands up well to

1. 1/2 slider video enhance. plus

2. 1/4 sharpness slider under Colour Adjustment.

These settings are preliminary till I get a chance to go flying again. I will report back after I edit my next flying video if I find anything else.

Cheers

Well after testing with two of my flying videos, I don't think the 35mbps Protune option in the new gopro update is worth it.

Can I see a worthwhile difference on my computer screen, no. Now if I was playing them on a huge flat screen TV, maybe, but for the extra memory and hard drive space needed I will leave "Protune" turned off. Especially this week I visited my son in QLD who is a TV and electronics geek and I watched one of my normal hangliding videos on his 65" TV and it looked fantastic. Especially when he turned my 2D video into 3D, honestly if I want any better quality I will go to the movies.

Bottom line I think the Protune may give you an extra 5% in quality which no one but us video editors will notice.

If you want the best video quality GoPro has just announced the release of GoPro HD3 with 2.7K & 4K video resolution. Now before you get all excited 4K is only at 12fps, good for say scenery but not much else. Also you reckon your laptop had problems with 1080 just try and edit 4,000 pixels resolution video.

Lastly I will say I finally maxed out all processors to 100% in my i7 chip and 5.9 gig of my 6 gig of memory today when I had a play with PD11 producing a little test video at 4K. Not something I am going to be using as 99% of my videos are for youtube. I might have another look at it when the video driver issue is fixed so I can use both of my video cards to produce, but I think 4K for the home is just one step too far.

Cheers

Pretty sure that 4k is not going to be used very much at the moment. Need to wait for everything else to catch up before it will be useable. Thanks for the info on the protune. I might try it out at some point to see if it makes a difference in the water.
