Joining of Two Files from a seemlessly taken video loaded into PD10/11

Hi

This was previously started on a different part of the Forum.

I also have JVC Everio HDD video cam. I would like to capture from the video cam due to the fact that when you go over the limit of the file size when recording to the cam, large files are split into smaller files. When you try and stitch them together in PD, any version, there is a small glitch at the join and the file is therefore not seemless and you get a hicup.

It would be good if PD could stitch the files together without this issue. I have tried many programmes to overcome this but none have worked. This is an issue with HD camcorders.

Let me explain a little bit more. I have a JVC high def digital camcorder. If I were to record video of 45 minutes in length, then the camera, due to file size restrictions, will split the video into two files. If recording as I usually do in hi-def then the files usually split at approx. 32 minutes and the second would be 13 minutes long. Now playing back the recording to the TV obviously plays the video seemlessly with no issues to audio or video from the camcorder.

However, when I the load the two files into PD, and this is for PD9,10,11, when you drag the files into the timeline and butt them together, i.e the end of one to the start of the other and playback either in PD or having made any type of file recording, there is a pause at the join. The playback is not seemless. If I had someone sining and turning at the same time, you would get a slight pause as the person turned and you would lose a few words of the song.

I discussed the issue with JVC in the first instance re file size and I am told that this is true of all digital camcorders and is down to the format of the SD card and file restriction. I checked this with other manufacters and they all said the same thing.

The only way around this I have found so far, is to copy the recording to a DVD via a recorder which then unfortunately records it as an Mpeg2 format therefore reducing the quality and then capturing the DVD into PD. No pause, playback is seemless due to the fact that it is all now one file.

If anyone has any ideas as to why or how to stop PD causing me the problem of joining the two files then it would be appreciated. This is why it would be nice if I could capture direct from the digital camcorder.

That is certainly true of the cameras I use. Like Carl & Michael both stated in the other thread - http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24872.page - split files from my Canon HFS100 play seamlessly both (a) when played back directly through the TV from the camera & (b) when inserted into PD's timeline.

That doesn't help you with your JVC. Did the information Michael posted give you any clues? http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24872.page#135488

Agreed - transferring to DVD is a bad idea in terms of quality.

I'm having trouble making sense of that. When you playback through the TV, it's seamless. When you copy it to DVD, it's seamless. Surely that means the video information (without a hiccup/pause/gap) is all there on the camera.

That's a bit of a mystery.

I've never used any video "joiner" software, but that might be a necessary option for you. At least you'd retain the original format/profile. Here's one http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

Cheers - Tony

Hi,
I have a JVC Hi-def camera but it is gz-hm670 32GB internal memory and 32gb sd card it stores in Mts format. A friend has a JVC camcorder (forgot the model) and his stores in the MOD extension.
We both took videos at a wedding and I made a 'Wedding DVD' for the bride and groom. What I had to do was use his Camcorder connected to my computer and use the Camera's transfer 'utility' to transfer the videos to my Hard drive using it (it gave the option of format to use( but i forget what the choices were) but i believe mts or m2ts was in there. After that I used PD10 ( the editor on hand) to create the DVD.
Hope this helps.

Hi

Thanks for the response. I have tried other "joining" software and seem to have the same issue. I am not sure if the two files do not record all the necessary info so that the join is seemless.

I have raised a tech suppor question and await a response.

JAMES1, the two files are seemless due to it being one recording of 45 minutes. But as said the files split into two due tothe file restrictions on size.

JVC have no response to the issue as it is even difficult to speak to anyone at JVC who is in technical support. The best I got was to be told to speak to the software people who supplied the software that comes with the camers.

I am ever hopeful of finding a resolution other than the workaround I have.

In response tothe question asked about the vsync etc. this is to technical for me and I would not know how PD should be configured for this.
