Hi,
Does anyone knows how to rename clips (actual files) in PD project or rename folder containing them after they have been added to timeline?
Regards,
Vadim

You can not rename in Powerdirector, but you can give the files an Alias.
Right Click on the file in the Library > Change Alias.

If you rename outside of Powerdirector, you will have to point Powerdirector to the files again, when the Window comes up to Browse or Cancel, choose Browse and locate the files. Save a PDS with the new file names.

Carl, that works if you move the files but not if you rename them. If PD is look for file "A" and it isn't there, it won't be able to guess what you might have named it. Jerry Schwartz

Carl, that works if you move the files but not if you rename them. If PD is look for file "A" and it isn't there, it won't be able to guess what you might have named it.

Also why it is not a good idea to rename or move files after you start a project.

You can browse for the files. You know where they are located because you renamed them yourself.

Once you use the Browse, you don't have to it again if you save the Project file after you have pointed Powerdirector to the files.

If you use the Alias, you are not renaming or moving the file, Powerdirector is just displaying the name you gave the file in Powerdirector.

Purely for the record, as it has been in most recent versions of PD, the .pds file can be edited in a plain text editor. It is possible to manually rename changed files, whether it is worth the trouble depends on circumstance. Below is a snip of the relevant section, with one file reference highlighted in red.

Before hacking the .pds file, remember to take at least 1 backup. Personally, it would be a last resort for me, but it is technically possible.

Cheers
Adrian Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. (see below)

Which is why most people would not even attempt to edit the PDS file.

You need some programming background to partly understand what you are reading.

I would consider that a last resort effort.
