Photodirector 3 cannot be installed under Windows 8

Hi,
I have purchased PhotoDirector 3 as an upgrade Version some time ago. And it ran fine under Windows 7, however I have upgraded to Windows 8 and I cannot install PhotoDirector 3. The Installation stops after InstallShield's checks with the message "The wrong Version of the program is installed. The Installation has been cancelled. Please contact your Application Provider".
I have tried the original Version I had purchased (filenames of the exe packages) CyberLinkPhotoDirector3_U.v2621_40829_Spr_PTD120208-02 and the updated Version CyberLink.v2719_41168_Spr_PTD120302-03. The Installation of PhotoDirector 2011 is denied with the same error message. Interesting is however that the Trial Version works fine, which cannot be "converted" to a full Version by entering the Serial number.

PhotoDirector 3 upgrade V2621 and V2719.
Windows 8 Build 9200 (Final) 64 Bit Version, x64 CPU

Hello Stringer,

Other issues have been reported with upgrade versions of PhD & Windows 8.

I'm unable to advise on the best way forward for you, but I'd suggest you contact Tech Support - just copy & paste your very well explained post (above).

I'm sure you'll have PhD up & running soon.

Hi Stringer,
Hi Pix,
please check the Windows 8 Guarantee for the recent products:
http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/window8-guarantee/enu/en_US/index.jsp?affid=2581_985_508_23432_0_ENU&utm_source=CLHP_Promotion&utm_medium=CLHP_Promotion_23432_cyberlink-media-suite&utm_campaign=CL_Homepage

There will be compatibility patches when Windows 8 reaches the general avialability

thanks for your understanding

Hi Pix,
Hi Michael,

thank you for the quick feedback. So this means, PhotoDirector is currently(!) not "designed" for Windows 8?

Hello Stringer,

There's been a bit of a delay in response because some people at CyberLink have been investigating the cause of your issue. As Michael stated here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/23472.page#126655 PhD3 installs & runs fine on his test system.

Some of the information you've provided is a little ambiguous, so further clarification is needed so that the problem can be resolved. If you wouldn't mind clarifying the following questions, that would be really helpful.

1. How did you run the upgrade process?
e.g. Did you (a) Install PhD 2011 in Win7 -> Install PhD 3 upgrade build in Win 7 -> Install Win8 upgrade build
or (b) Install Win8 upgrade build -> Install PhD 2011 in Win 8 -> Install PhD 3 upgrade build

2. Did you install PhD3 as a full build or an upgrade from PhD2011?
This isn't clear because the build numbers you quoted are not upgrade build - CyberLinkPhotoDirector3_U.v2621_40829_Spr_PTD120208-02 and CyberLink.v2719_41168_Spr_PTD120302-03 - in fact they're the same installer files I used myself. It is a full version & should not require PhD2011 to be present.

3. Could you provide a screen shot of any error messages you get during your attempted installation?
This will really help provide more information for the people investigating the problem.

Clearly, if the trial version installs & runs correctly on Windows 8 the full version should too!

If it were me, I'd be completely uninstalling all versions of PhotoDirector on your system and re-installing the 2719 build.

Be assured that your issue will be resolved, but only with further clarification. Thank you.

Hello Pix,
thank you for getting back at me.

I installed Windows 8 on a clean Partition - so there is no direct upgrade here.
I have also tried to install PhD2011 first and then to upgrade to PhD3 with the Upgrade Version. The PhD2011 in my case is CyberLink.v2105_37772_Spr_PTD110909-01.exe, the PhD3 Version was CyberLinkPhotoDirector3_U.v2621_40829_Spr_PTD120208-02. Both installations fail with the same error. Therefore no version was installed properly.
Looking for an update/patch on the Cyberlink Website, I had found CyberLink.v2719_41168_Spr_PTD120302-03.exe, giving the same error.
However, lastly I could download and install the Trial Version CyberLink.v2719_41168_Spr_PTD120302-04.exe successfully.

I am not sure, if I understood this correctly, but to install the upgrade Version of the PhD3, I would need to install the 2011 Version first?

Translation of the attached error: "The wrong Version of the program is installed. The Installation has been cancelled. Please contact your Application Provider"

Hello Stringer,

Some supportive people at CyberLink have been investigating your PhD installation issue with Windows 8. They've provided some useful feedback that may solve the problem.

It would appear that there may have been some confusion with the installation process, completely unrelated to Windows 8. Some builds of PhD are full builds (standalone installers). Others are either patch or upgrade builds, which require the presence of the software on your system.

From your description (above), it seems that you:
i. first tried to install PhD 2011 patch build your Win8 system, without the existence of any installed PhD. That's why the installation returned an error. You cannot install a patch on nothing.
ii. Next you tried to install a PhD 3 upgrade build, without the existence of any PhD installed in your system. Again, the installation program complained.

If you're sure that's not the case, please post here.

Here's what to do to resolve the installation problem:
1. If you purchased PhD 2011, please install it before running ANY PhD 2011 patch or PhD 3 upgrade builds.
- CyberLink.v2105_37772_Spr_PTD110909-01.exe is a patch build
2. If you've lost your original PhD 2011 installer files, please contact Customer Support to provide proof of purchase and CL will assist accordingly.
- CyberLinkPhotoDirector3_U.v2621_40829_Spr_PTD120208-02 is an upgrade build
3. If you never purchased PhD 2011, you'll need to purchase PhD 3 full build and then CL will refund the cost of your purchased PhD 3 upgrade. Again, proof of purchase will be needed.
4. Since PhD 4 has been released, with many improvements over PhD 3, you might consider purchasing it anyway.

I trust that these findings can assist you in resolving the installation problem.

Thank you to the CL people who've actively assisted with this issue.

Well, that would explain why the Trial Version worked while my installers didn't. I have received the free version of PhotoDirector 2011 last year after participating in the Beta Test, which I unfortunately don't have the installer for anymore.

Thank you and the CL guys who helped us. I will try to figure it out with the Customer Service.
