Hello Stringer,
Some supportive people at CyberLink have been investigating your PhD installation issue with Windows 8. They've provided some useful feedback that may solve the problem.
It would appear that there may have been some confusion with the installation process, completely unrelated to Windows 8. Some builds of PhD are
full builds (standalone installers). Others are either
patch or
upgrade builds, which require the presence of the software on your system.
From your description (above), it seems that you:
i. first tried to install PhD 2011
patch build your Win8 system, without the existence of any installed PhD. That's why the installation returned an error. You cannot install a patch on nothing.
ii. Next you tried to install a PhD 3
upgrade build, without the existence of any PhD installed in your system. Again, the installation program complained.
If you're sure that's not the case, please post here.
Here's what to do to resolve the installation problem:
1. If you purchased PhD 2011, please install it before running ANY PhD 2011 patch or PhD 3 upgrade builds.
- CyberLink.v2105_37772_Spr_PTD110909-01.exe is a patch build
2. If you've lost your original PhD 2011 installer files, please contact Customer Support to provide proof of purchase and CL will assist accordingly.
- CyberLinkPhotoDirector3_U.v2621_40829_Spr_PTD120208-02 is an upgrade build
3. If you never purchased PhD 2011, you'll need to purchase PhD 3 full build and then CL will refund the cost of your purchased PhD 3 upgrade. Again, proof of purchase will be needed.
4. Since PhD 4 has been released, with many improvements over PhD 3, you might consider purchasing it anyway.
I trust that these findings can assist you in resolving the installation problem.
Thank you to the CL people who've
actively assisted with this issue.
