I'm making a slideshow for YouTube that only has audio. Are there any plug-ins or effects out there that can create an animation which responds to the audio levels?

Like this (but not this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS7Yq7OQRqA www.rickcowan.com

Please explain. I know you said not like that but .. Do you have a video that responds to audio? I think with YouTube you needs something to see ! .

If you play the audio in WMP, using "visualizations", you can screen capture a large array of graphics which can be used in PD, provided you capture in a use-able codec. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Hi Rick -

Barry's suggestion is a good one... no need to download any extra software.

Are you specifically looking for a graphic equalizer display effect? or just a visual effect to add to the sound?

WMP has a number of visualisations built into it - each of which responds visually to the audio track being played. You can also download extras from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-media-player/visualizations?locale=409&geoid=c&version=12.0.7601.17514&userlocale=c09

As suggested, you could do a screen capture of the visualisation with the audio track playing... then import that into PD.

Cheers - Tony

I'm not looking for anything specific. I was just thinking that if I make a youtube video to accompany an audio message, it would be nice to have something moving on the screen. If PD had some sort of built in feature it would have been a simple solution.

I used YouCam5, but there are tons of freebies out there.
Also, this was rendered to an SD quickie, but captured in HD.

Good illustration Barry.

Rick - the original example you posted was done in After Effects... a different kettle of fish to PD.

I really think the WMP/screen capture option is the easiest. Attached are some samples captured in WMP's visualisation mode, using spoken text as the audio track.

Another possibility - if you're not bothered about the waveform matching the audio, you could use a generic waveform clip (maybe use video speed to make it look right)... http://archive.org/details/AudioWaveformAnimation

Cheers - Tony

Hmm.
Tony got one star.
Then BarryTheCrab got one star, for saying… “5 stars for Tony”

Well geez, I want a one star too there one star giver guy.
But what to do? What to say?
Oh! I know! This ought to do it. Ready?

5 stars for Clint Eastwood !
(Geez, I hope the sarcasm didn’t go over his head)

But RickCowan, Sir (and hi by the way)
This is your thread on the subject of Audio animation. And we have digressed a bit here. And it appears that some of our members have given you some good ideas that are right along the lines of what you are looking for.
(Thus their willingness to help you, merits one star. Yes, I know. This forum has gotten pretty weird lately)

But to your topic.
I suppose one could also think of audio animation as “imagery” that syncs with an audio track. This being another visual expression, of animating “the audio”.
But that style may not be what you’re after. And even though it’s not really the imagery that matters (though if the imagery could also kind of tell a story) while primarily only being there to “service” the music track, then that’s a plus.

So, I submit the following, that I am sure is in no way what you were looking to do.
But is my way of directly addressing your topic, so that I can also…
(1) - Not be accused of high jacking your thread by going off topic about the one star giver(s) who hide in the shadows.
(2) - And hopefully also get an anonymous one star rating myself. Just like Barry and Tony did.
(3) - And… if my reply here could also get removed. Well, that would be like hitting an in the park home run!

Thus, I submit this production as a possible example, of or an answer to, your Audio Animation query.

(Note: This was done back in 2007, with PD6? or PD7? So cut me some slack one star giver guy, hahaha. I hadn’t found this forum yet, and didn’t have the benefit of your star power back then)

Cranston, you and Clint Eastwood have an equal propensity of neglecting the point at hand in favour of leading others on a tour of your meandering stream of consciousness.

Here is my first attempt at using the suggestions above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGsJ_no6kLM

Now Cranston, with the permission of the man in the empty chair next to me, I will look at the video you suggested.

Pastor Rick,

Sorry to have disrupted your thread. I really am.
But there are things and acts afoot here on the forum, that have been going on for way too long now.
You, having only having been here a couple of weeks, would not be aware of them.

There are too many kind and super helpful people that are being abused by this silly star rating system. And many good members have left over time, owing to this silliness and anonymous abuse.

It’s something that many of us have asked for years to be corrected. So that we can go back to having a nice and well mannered and helpful forum, where members comport themselves like ladies and gentleman again, sans a spiteful agenda.
Populated with friendly and helpful members, who will want to continue to participate. And so it remains a safe place for everyone, every newbie, and for you sir to come and ask and answer questions. Where members are perhaps a bit more mindful of the sentiment expressed in Luke 6:31.

That’s why I, after holding my tongue for years, finally just had to let off a little steam.
A perfectly good thread like yours. Posed by a Pastor no less. With a good question, receiving good answers. And yet again someone anonymously hides in the shadows and pins one star on some of this forum’s most generous and helpful members that are only trying to help you.

And with all due respect, you having been here a couple weeks, have no idea what has been going on of late.
Or for that matter, hahaha, what the propensity is of someone who has been here and contributed to this forum for 5 years.
Or what efforts many of us have gone to, to try make and keep this forum as friendly and helpful, and “accurate”, and as peaceful a place as it can possibly be.
And to retain the sanctity of the forum's main mission, it is sometimes in order, to go in and rid the temple of the money changers. Or so I once read.

But again, I publically apologize to you if my actions and words offended you. And for venting on this subject, in your thread.

God Bless.
