Are You using the Trial version of Powerdirector 10?

If so there a limits on the HD parts of the trial.

Does not do any H.264 on Windows XP.

Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

What is the Version and Build for your powerdirector 10?

To find the version and build, click on the the Words Powerdirector in the upper Right of the program window.

If would save all of us a lot of time and guesses if you post Part A and Part B information in the following:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page

What is your source video that gave the Media source error?

A MediaInfo report of the Video would help.

Download MediaInfo from here:

HI Carl312....Could you qualify the comment on H.264 in the trial version. Is it ANY H.264 content? Is it limited to Windows XP? (I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit). Is this publicly acknowledged by Cyberlink?

I have just installed the trial version. Can import, edit and produce the files (.TOD) from my JVC Everio HD7 camera just fine. However, my GoPro Hero2 outputs all content (regardless of resolution) as H.264. The full HD clips I can import but get this error when adding to the timeline. However, if I let PD10 create a shadow file then I am able to add this to the timeline, can edit it but not produce. Anything lower than full HD then PD10 doesn't create a shadow file and therefore I can't do anything with it. Admittedly both scenarios are not good as I can't produce anything at the end.

I just need a little confidence that if I pay for the full version I will not run into this issue.....

Don't believe this is a codec issue outside of PD10 as I can play all clips on numerous media players.

BTW - Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Quad core, 8Gb RAM. KLite Full (32 & 64 bit).

Thanks

The limits in the Powerdirector 10 Trial:
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdirector/download_en_US.html

The H.264 capability is dependant on several factors with Windows 7 being one. The video card and software being another.

Fact is PD 10 Trial is limited in what it can do with HD video. The retail PD 10 Ultra is not limited.

You can do anything you want to do with SD files as long as they are not H.264.

Hi Carl

Thanks for the prompt response and the level of information. Reading the links suggests that H.264 is supported in the trial version at the hardware level only. Checked my Graphics card (NVidia Quaddro 1000M 2Gb) and it is supposed to support H.264. Just upgraded to latest NVidia driver and still no luck....and in any case....if I enable hardware acceleration in PD10 I get the green screen issue with my HD files.

I am happy with performance levels without hardware acceleration so I guess when I purchase the full version I'll be OK.

However, I refer to a comment I made in another thread on a similar subject......The average guy looking for a consumer level product to simply produce their camcorder footage will struggle to navigate to the solutions to get all this working and will be put off this product. I think PD10 is perhaps the best in capability but others exceed it in terms of getting it up and running. Yes I know it is the trial version but some of the issues I have come across exist in the full version but for different reasons. For me personally though, I actually like working through these things.

Thanks Carl.

donski,

Your conclusions are probably correct, Cyberlink chose that path.
I think PD10 is perhaps the best in capability but others exceed it in terms of getting it up and running. Yes I know it is the trial version but some of the issues I have come across exist in the full version but for different reasons. For me personally though, I actually like working through these things.

My first introduction to Powerdirector was via a OEM bundled version which was a lesser version than the Full Retail version.

But the OEM version did do all it was supposed to do, it just was missing some features that were in the retail version.

I still have Powerdirector 8 Ultra.

The first Trial version of Powerdirector I tried was Powerdirector 9, which is what helped me to decide to buy Powerdirector 9 Ultra 64. The trial of PD 9 showed that there was vast improvement over PD 8.

Had I not had the experience of previous versions of Powerdirector, I might have thought that Trial is not a good example of what Powerdirector can do.

I have run Powerdirector 10 Trial on two different computers, I wanted to see what features were added over Powerdirector 9.
I knew about the HD limits, that did not bother me because I have Powerdirector 9 Ultra 64.

Powerdirector 9 and Powerdirector 10 are not a great deal different, except PD 10 does 3D, PD 9 does not.

I can testify that Powerdirector is for the price, a great Video Editor. None of the competitors can come close to the function, user interface and ease of use.

If you use the sample files for testing Powerdirector 10 Trial, the sample files will perform every function in Powerdirector 10. Which is what I use to test Powerdirector or to create DEMOs.

You're right Carl....most peoples first experience will most likely be with the OEM bundled software initially and they tend to be fairly seamless.

Thanks for all your help on this. I'm ready to buy now!!!

Hi Donski,
Hi don't forget when you purchase and install Pd10 Ultra there is a 30 day period to activate some components also and H.264 is one I believe. So after installing throw a video on timeline and produce to activate the 3rd party stuff.

Thanks for the heads up Jim...Do they tell you all this when you purchase it?

Do you mean throw a H.264 video on the timeline?

Anything else I ought to know :

Cheers

Don

Hi,
Well it is in some small print hidden in help files but not explicit. Just throw any thing in timelene and produce it then it activates the module there is another for blu-ray also.
You can delete the file afterwards it is just to cativate the various 3rd party thingy's.

You can use the sample files,

Put the sample files on the timeline, Produce module, Produce a MPEG2, AVC H.264 and do a Create Disk, you do not have to burn a disk, just burn a Disk Folder on your hard drive, you can delete the folder after you are done.

Once done no worries about the Component Activation.

Hi Carl...found the "small print" in PD11 confirming internet access required to activate modules. Followed your instructions about producing the 2 file formats and also burn disc. Didn't get any messages confirming activation though....should I have?

Cheers

No, there is not a confirming message. If the various profiles are activated, they just work.

If they are past the 30 day limit and have not been activated, they cease to work.
