Audio lags video by a lot

When I capture from my composite -> digital adaptor, the audio lags the video by a lot: perhaps 1/2 a second. I have another program that, although it has its own problems, doesn't display this lag.

Any suggestions on where to look? There don't seem to be many PD options when it comes to capturing.

(I started another thread at Codec spelled backwards is "Aaargh!" asking for general help with codecs, but this thread is about a problem with PD.) Jerry Schwartz

Are you using PD to capture, via the dongle?
Does the dongle have it's own software?
Does other software use the dongle correctly?
If you are using the dongle-ware...does the same captured file lag in PD, but not other NLEs?
How many times can I use "dongle" in a post? Anybody?
Can you attach a sample file, little fella? HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

jerrys,

The clip you attached to the previous thread plays fine in my PD10. No lag in the audio. Lip movement and audio are in perfect sync. Tested in the library window and on the timeline.

Are you getting a lag in that clip or does it work ok on your system also?

  • Technically, it isn't a dongle.
  • The converter has a driver, which of course is common to all programs that want to use it.
  • GrabBee, the capture program that came with the converter, keeps the audio and video in synch.
  • If I use PD (or anything else) to play a file captured by GrabBee, there is no lag.
  • The lag shows up when I try to capture with PD.
  • It turns out that although PD's display shows this lag while doing the capture, the resulting file is just fine! I didn't notice this until just now when I started to make a file to upload.
  • Don't you clack your claws at me!

  • I guess that lag during capture, irritating as it is, is just something I'll have to ignore. If anyone knows of any settings that might have an effect, please let me know. Jerry Schwartz

As I just discovered, the captured file plays back fine. The lag is only evident during the capture.

Hal, we need to go back to the other thread for the rest of this.

    Thanks. Jerry Schwartz

You just trying to see how dizzy you can get me or what?

OK I will have a look at the other thread for the grand finale.
