‘Quality Profile and Capture Settings’ in ‘Capture Mode

Can someone please tell me where I can find more detailed information regarding ‘Quality Profile and Capture Settings’ in ‘Capture mode’? I have read through both the “Introduction to creative movie making with CyberLink PowerDirector 9” and “CyberLink PowerDirector 9.0 User's Guide”. Neither tutorial goes into any depth regarding the use and / or outcome of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or AVI output settings.

I am in the process of capturing video stored on a DVR using a “SVID2USB23 USB 2.0 S-Video/Composite video capture cable” connected using the S-Video cable option. The video capture cable supports TWAIN drivers and works just fine as a interface between the DVR and the PowerDirector software. My concern is which capture / output mode (eg. MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI) to use. I want the end product to have the best quality using the least amount of space.

Thanks & Regards!

I'm not sure of your source video quality but with S-video your capability is 480i so best quality least space capture with PD9 would be MPEG2 with the DVD HQ profile. A custom MPEG2 profile could eek out a little more quality in numbers but it would not be noticeable to the eye.

Best option is MPEG-2 HQ, AVI also is a good quality at the cost of much larger files.

MPEG-1 is a big NO. Very old format and low quality video.

You do know that you can not capture any HD content in the Capture module.
Output is 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL.

...Thanks Jeff, Carl for your replies, I'll try using the MPEG2 setting and we'll see what happens.
