I have a 4GB machine running Windows 7 64 bit. I open PowerDirector 10 and it uses every page of available memory and won't respond. It beats even iTunes for being a memory hog. Must I get more memory simply to run this program or is there something else wrong?

you machine hasn't enough memory. Period. Didn't you read the specs for Power Director. widows 7 64Bit requires a lot of resources to work, and you have only 4 Mb..which after windows 7 uses it's share you probably only have 3Mb left for Power Director..video editing requires a LOT computer power and memory resources to work, your machine will stuggle.

These are the specs

"Memory
512 MB required
3GB DDR2 or above recommended for 32 bit OS
6GB DDR2 or above recommended for 64 bit OS & 3D editing"

Have you set your Windows virtual memory? Typically 1.5 times the actual memory. Go to Windows help and type that in and it will tell you how to set it up.

It should run with less but you may have some issues with time delays.

Having said that, memory is cheap. Do you have any spare slots for more memory? Laptop or desktop. I just added 6G of memory for less than $50 but my mother board would take the additional memory. If yours can't, you would probably have to replace them all.

You do not specify your PC type, HDD size or graphics memory size. In general, with Win 7 on a i7 PC with a graphics card of at least 1 Gbyte, your main memory will have to be at least 6 gbytes. Your HDD should have at least 50 gbytes free for HD editing one movie at a time. Win 10, i7

I have Q9550, 4 GB DDR2 ram, 7200 rpm x 3 HDs, nVidia 1gb 550Ti video card, win 7 64bit, PD 64 bit. No problem with editing 720p clips never maxed out mem. Maximum used around 3 gig... check anyother program causing this could be some background application. Check your Task Manager....
