Hi,
I have PD10 Ultra latest build, and have been creating various projects to learn how things work, the limits and drawbacks of the program. I experiment with 3D aspect, Pip objects and masks then in Create disk menu I experiment and build my own etc for the same reason.
If and when I upload to DZ there is not feedback on the templates and from my visits to the forum there they are directed back to this forum, but this forum is basically for members having trouble getting The program to work on there systems.
would it be appropriate for the Forum manager to create a sub forum for 'How to accomplish" things in PD?
Jim

Jim, you should PM Dafydd Bevan - SoftDeko with that suggestion.

Dafydd, will reply one way or another.
Besides, he may not see your post for a while, if at all.

Jim, when the forum started back in 2006, that is exactly what the forum was for, asking other members how to accomplish tasks and use PD effectively. In those early days, when membership of the forum was relatively small, most of the answers were provided by Dafydd, Barry (the crab) and myself, then as membership grew more and more members, as their confidence grew also started answering the 'how to' questions. Many of the more prolific forum members of that time no longer take an active part on the forum. Later, the likes of Cranston, Cap'n Kevin, Tony, Adrian and others took over the 'how to' role most effectively.
In recent times however the forum has changed, it is no longer a 'how to' forum, it is now more like the complaints dept. of a major store, where you voice your complaint, only to be told it will be passed on to the relevant dept. head and you know full well that your complaint will be filed in the appropriate waste bin.
This used to be a great forum for learning about PD, just look at the posts of 4-5 years ago, but no longer.

Hi robert,
Thanks for the feedback.
Sorry to say that I wasn't here back then and didn't even Know bout Power Director...that being said I visit here quite frequently now a days and have gone to PDToots quite often but as you say PDtoots shows the some of the features and how to do Basic modify. Here on this Power 'Director 10' forum it is more on getting Power Director to work on there systems or systems with out dated drivers.
I would like a sub-forum on how to's and just how to so a member and can use the programs features in more advanced ways.

To be fair, PD10 did address many of our concerns, even if it did introduce a whole new set of bugs.

Personally, I prefer the forums the way they are. Other forums that break down into subgroups often become too complicated and it gets harder to find an answer. Not easier. Just my opinion. Some of what I think you are looking for is in the stickies. __________________________________

I have been harping to Dafydd a very very very long time and directly to CL about having two PD forums. One for tech issues as in not running, drivers, and the normal stuff we get now. And one for EDITING PROJECTS and rendering/burning how to.... not it wont burn/render questions. And a way to put the questions in the right forum when they are i the wrong forum....

Hi,
Well 'BarryrheCrab' sir....that wouldn't help members with Power Director, but would help them stimulate the economy buying new gadgets..
So I take it that you don't think it is a good suggestion....?
Can't blame me for trying...

I would also.

I have had a terrible time figuring out the wireless mic for my Canon camera, I may have the correct mic now. I finally found the mic level body pack receivers that plug directly in the Mic input on the camera without any adapters.

They are surprisingly hard to find.

I don’t know how many times this question has come up.
Certainly many times.
We have equally many times gotten the answer from the forum moderator
that this is what Cyberlink wants: a forum NOT for editing issues, but ONLY
for technical issues. I cannot find the post via search now, but I clearly
remember it was suggested to me to start my own forum if I wanted to
address editing issues.
As of the past few months, “How do I” questions are directed here from the
DirectorZone forum. Maybe it’s fair to say that the guidance here, there and
nowhere can come across as confusing.

Technical support and help is valuable and needed.
Therefore, a technical CL forum is needed to support the sometimes
late responses from the Tech support of CL.
But why do people buy an editing software?
My guess is that it is because they want to edit.
Next step is probably for people to try and improve their editing, learn –
and try to make their videos more interesting, more complex.
And when we make something, we usually develop our skills from feedback,
from discussions and from suggestions.
A video forum is, in my opinion, short of value if the essence of video-interest;
the editing, is being left out.
I do not agree with you, Jaime, that having sections in a forum is complicated.
Anyway, for the past few years, we have been asking only for 2 sections.
But, taking the moderators word for it, this is what CL wants:
a technical forum.

hilsen Nina

Just something.

I've done some work on a website of my own, not nearly done, but I'm not sure what to do about a forum, blog, or comment area that would serve those needs not met here. If I do a really good job of it, Cyberlink might find themselves looking around saying "where IS everybody?".
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot, they don't look here (a dubious claim).

I try running a forum on a web site that I have using a php board. It did ok for a year. Then I stated have porn sites running spam on it. I did not want to get in to learning how to use all the filters so I closed it. Good luck to anyone that does. At the time I had only a few hours a day to work with it. Michael, that's the problem for some scripts - they have "backdoors".

The DZ forum is where you show off a created template, mention/feature/link to it to direct visiting traffic.

The main forums (ALL of CyberLink Forums) here are for software related issue and for editors to discuss editing in general with PowerDirector.

The PD forums have evolved from when I first started giving assistance and passing on my knowledge to others. That's to be expected. Computers have got more powerful, editors' expectations have grown, Cameras have improved dramatically and not all at the same rate. Technical issues are likely to appear more often and PD Editors have helped many find a quick solution.

Barry,
I have no problem with equipment posts so long as they're not "adverts". For example here's what I could write if asked about tripods and capturing video for editing with PowerDirector. I own 2 liquid (ideal for video) head tripods and a standard head tripod (all by Man*****) the latter is intended for still cameras but it's useful to flick the HD camera on its side for the "long upright" video shot. I also own a mono-pod which really is useless for videoing as it doesn't allow a steady shot. I converted the lower part of the mono-pod leg to hold an underwater camera which I can now stick into my pond or a local (sea) rock pool. I have a micro-tripod - and find little use for it - I used the head on the mono-pod. I would attach images etc to show what I have done to the mono-pod... for a laugh
By all means start a thread and discuss, can I contribute as well?

Bubba,
Splitting the forum up into different sections. I'm not that keen on doing this and neither is CyberLink. It would spread the posts more thinly and make it difficult for a newbie to know where to post. Now it is easy - Newbie: "I have PD9" I'll post on the PD9 forum.....

Creations:
I'm quite ok with links to creations, however I'm concerned with any link to a third party location and would not want members directed to view unpleasant video or other matter. One member in this thread complained about another member's videos, I then had to handle the situation. Whichever way I stepped I would/could upset someone. I will remove without explanation any post that another member complains about, I may or may not view it. Please post your links to your "creations".

Dafydd
