Hi,
I am trying to design my own menu using my own stuff...I have the images I wish to use but am not clear on how to accomplish getting a 'chapter' from my timeline to preview on the Root menu page?
Do the images (supplied in PD) Thumb(1).png,Thumb(2).png and Thumb(3).png represent my chapter markers?
The image here is a annotated design, representing what I would like.
p.s. the image was rescaled for posting purposes

Jim -

Yes - in all the menu templates, Thumb(0).png, Thumb(1).png etc are the chapter markers you've selected.

In the menu templates sub-folders, they're found in the Layer Template folder.

I'm afraid I don't know enough about the menu structure PD generates to help with your other question. Maybe the ***** who keeps dumping one star on my posts will chime in with a constructive suggestion.

Cheers - Tony

That's a bitch Tony. Do you have any suspicions?

James1, I think we talked about this before. Chapters are subdivisions of videos or titles.

The standard menus will show the preview of the title; not necessarily the chapter preview.

Assuming you have several titles and several chapters in each title, do you want to select the preview of one of the chapters to show rather than the preview of the title? You cannot have it both ways.

Please let us know.

In the edit mode right after you select to create you chapters, there is an icon that allow you to select the current fame as the chapter thumbnail. See attachment

Hi Tony and Stevek,
Thanks for the replies...I think I did but not sure if it was exactly as I asked this time...I am trying to simulate a default template, but using my own 'Video' in the root menu (the red cirle area in my posted image) shows a scene from the timeline. I can accomplish this by creating a separate project with the video I want in top timeline, (using a mask) and a frame overlay on lower track with transparent area and producing, then using that as my root menu background. But if I subsequently create another project and apply the new menu I am referring to the same video is in the frame.
Hope this makes sense,
What I want is to apply MY menu to another project, but have a scene from the timeline in the frame.

Jim -

It's always at this point that I hit a wall. I have no idea how to generate a menu page (video or still) where you can control the position of the motion thumbnail.

If you look at the Monopoly menu, it has a series of videos that run at the start. The motion thumbnail plays inside the frame (just as you want to do with your menu).

In C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector10\Menus\Monopoly\background you'll see Travel_Chapter.png & Travel_Chapter.wmv - that blue space is for the motion thumbnail.

Then we start getting into .xml files (which contain all the instructions) & that's where I hit the wall. Zip, zilch & zero understanding of them. Sorry.

I think you may need some knowledge of editing those files in order to do what you want.

Cheers - Tony

P.S. Steve - yes.

p.s. this is a great Program and Great forum but Cyberlink should have more concise guide on how to modify or do things...

Tony, here's a star for you.
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

James, t almost seems like you really want a first run movied that plays when you put the DVD in the player rather than a menu. Menus are typically short displays - some are 15 to 30 seconds and then repeat from the start. I don't think this is what you want.

Have yiou considered making a first play video - as long as you want it with the video as a PIP insert and then going to the chapter menu?

Alternately, you can replace the menu background with a video background.

Help says"Setting Menu Opening and Background

You can import a video that plays in the background while the menu is loading. Usually called a menu opening, it is seen on most commercial discs before the menu options display.

You can also add or replace the background of your disc menu with an image or a video file, or set a video effect that is applied to the background of your disc menu.

Just some alternates you can consider. I knwo that there are some high priced programs out there that will allow you to make menus with all kinds of fancy things (like computer web links). I'm not sure that they are worth it.

Hi SteveK,
Yes i have created a first play scene..by using a clip from the finished project but what I was hoping to accomplish is to have the first play have a clip that is I use for a different project would display a short scene from that project appear where my original clip is...that is my sticking point...If a publish to DZ for members to use I don't want my video in the opening first Play but a clip from there Project. does that make sense.
JIm
p.S thanks for the interest and replies..
