PD10 and Canon...

Wondering if anyone here happens to use PD10 in conjunction with a Canon HF series SD media-only camcorder.

The AVCHD format that Canon records to is somewhat problematic when trying to get the recorded videos from the camera to the computer to be recognized for editing. Even the Pixela software that came with the HF100 is undesireable, and unpredictible.

Wanting to know if anyone has experience using PD10 to capture and transfer AVCHD format from camera to PC, and whether your experience is pos or neg.

Thank you to all who respond.

Hi Robert68,

Welcome to the forum. I have a Canon Vixia HFR100 cam and what I usually do is remove the SD card when I am done, insert into a card reader and copy the files to the computers hard drive. On MY card the files are located in Private/AVCHD/BDMV/STEAM. Copy the mts files you want and paste them to a folder on your computer. No need to capture, then select import media files using PD10. I won't use the Pixela software if I had too, never liked it!

Dave

No problems with any Canons. Do as Dave says, remove the card, copy the files to your hard-drive.
If the files are not on the card, but rather on the HF on-board storage, plug in the camera power cord and attach the camera via USB. Totally ignore Pixela, I've not used it EVER.

Thanks Barry for the reminder. I forgot about moving the files in that manner, that should work also. HP Envy 17

Just a comment - my own preference is to plug the camera in to the USB port and copy or drag and drop the clips.

I read somewhere that removing and replacing the SD card too many times can wear the contacts and possibly make it unusable.

If you were to remove and insert the card a 100,000 times you might see a little wear on the contacts.

Most likely the card will become unusable if you have written to the card a couple million times.
