Can I "color" out a logo?
[Post New]
Hi to all you wonderful helpful folk out there.

I've a question I've not been able to find an answer for. I went for labs today and ask the gal who was drawing my blood if I could tape her doing so. She said sure, and since she was on the last vial I quickly pulled out my camcorder and just started taping. Usually I would check the scene through my view finder first and sure enough, I missed a white text logo on the little black tray she was using to hold the vials.

If this were just a photo I could easily paint the white text over with black and be done with it. I tried to blur it, but the tray is slanted so the blur doesn't cover properly and looks odd.

Is there a way to "paint" the logo text away in the first frame and then instruct the program to do the same to all the rest of the frames? The tray is pretty much in the same spot for the whole 17 second video.

I've got to nix the logo, since I think this would be a useful medical clip and would like to add it to my Pond5 stock video portfolio, and they won't take it with a 3rd party logo showing.

Thanks for any help!

Dustie

Maybe this tutorial will help.

You can use a mask to set the size of the blur and what the blur covers.

Thanks Carl..I did watch that video and tried to make a blur mask...but it would only let me make it in a square or oval/circle and what I'm trying to cover is writing on the side of a black tray, rectangular slanted like \ the forward slash so I can't fit the mask to cover it. I can't find any way to rotate the blur mask to fit.

Then there's the fact that the tech's hand keeps passing over the tray and the blur then is on top of her hand. It just looks awful and sloppy when it's viewed at full size.

Sounds like "operator" error. Sometimes we just don't get the camera shot quite right, and there are not always 2nd chances. Even if you get the fix you desire the "fix" may make the clip unworthy of a sale. Could you provide a screenshot of the offending area? HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

To explain it I figured it was best to upload it to youtube so you can see what Im needing to hide...it's the text on the black tray holding the vile. I would use a mask blur if I could figure out how to rotate it to sit right atop the white text.

I suspect you will need to make a custom mask but it shouldn't be too complex.

This is part 1 of a 3 part tutorial using quite complex custom masking but it may illustrate the technique. There is no need to import a mask into PD's mask system, they can be used as an overlay on another track.

Hi Dustie

It should be easy to create an angled blur shouldn't it?

Unfortunately there is no adjustment on the 'angle' of the blur effect.

Here's a workaround:

NOTE: YOU COULD ALSO USE A BLURRED IMAGE IMPORTED INTO THE MEDIA LIBRARY

ALSO WITH THE COLOURED BOARD YOU COULD MAKE IT NARROWER AND USE A BORDER AND BLUR THE BORDER IN THE SETTINGS

OR

Using the blur effect set the maximum gradient to 200:

Or alternatively download the attached file and use this instead of a colour board.

Happy editing

I edited your video to obscure the logo on the tray. It is not perfect. It is about as good as I can get it.

You can use this video for any purpose except for when you get paid. I do not give any right to sell this edited version without written permission.

I deleted the Video.

Thanks All for trying to help. You're all super, as usual!

As I see it, Carl's video clearly shows that any of these fixes are going to be quite obvious as the wrist passes over the logo. What ever I do, I would need to do to each frame in which the logo shows, and not do in the frames that the hand is obscuring the logo. I think that is beyond this software. A blur might work if I could angle the blur, but no luck doing that.

Alas, looks like I'm going to have to give up this clip. I have to have labs drawn twice a year (diabetes) so next time I will make sure there are no logos showing when I tape. Thanks all for trying to help!

It was fun trying.

Next time carry some black tape with you. That way if there is a logo on the tray, you can put a piece of tape to cover it up.

Electricians tape is usually black.

A good shot is usually well-prepared (not always).
Carl is 100% correct about the tape, I would just add several colors to your camera bag. Perhaps you could ask permission or set up a shot somehow with a tripod and get the best blood-shot of all time. Good luck. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Wow Carl....what good advice. Electrical tape, black and thanks Barry for the tip on different colors too, easy to do since it comes in so many colors now.

I don't know how receptive they would be to me setting up a camcorder but I suppose I could ask.

I went ahead and loaded this video to my YouTube channel, since I don't think the little text logo isn't going to matter much there, as it would if it were in my video stock portfolio for sale. It might be helpful for someone who is going to have blood drawn for the first time to see.

Thanks all! Dustie
