Transitions make your video shorter
[Post New]
Hi there. I discovered that transitions make your video shorter. If you have a 3 minute video and you insert a transition in the middle, the video becomes shorter by 2 seconds. This is fine unless you have locked the audio and then your audio goes out of sync in the final production.

I did a music video and I put in a 10 second clip of a "2nd camera" in the middle (just video, no audio.) I put in two transitions and the audio went out of sync. The way I fixed it was to add some time to the front of the middle clip and also to the front of the next clip. I reduced the same amount of time at the end of those two clips. I don't know if I am explaining this right (it's a bit complex for my brain) but you can see the final 3 minute YouTube music video at http://youtu.be/lZLtmCWTbwY (you may have to post this in your browser.) If anyone has comments on this topic, feel free to reply!

it's just one of those things that you need to be aware of - it can be frustrating, but once you know you're set for future projects

Hi Rob

Welcome to the volunteer forum

In PowerDirector 10 you have the option of cross or overlap transitions in the preference settings - I'm sure this is the same as PD9.

You can also adjust the default transition length.

Overlap merges and shortens the clip and cross doesn't.

Happy editing

P.S. Just watched your video - great stuff

You said that "I put in a 10 second clip of a "2nd camera" in the middle (just video, no audio.)". You can use a PIP track to drop a '2nd' camera clip (muted of course). This maintains the continuity of the 'action'.

All the best
