Hi again.

Modify works wery slow whwn I want ta modify an image at the timeline where I am using several tracks.
I takesfrom 12 to 15 seconds to open "modify" and again 15 seconds to close the modify window after clikking OK.
Worse some times PD9 stop running.

Hi Anja

I have had a quick look at your dxdiag file and your computer seems more than adequate to handle PD9.

I only have have a couple of suggestions (hopefully the more technical minded members here can shed some light on your issue).

1. Ensure PD is installed on your C drive and that ALL media file (JPEGS Video etc) are also on the C Drive

2. Turn off the shadow edit file in the preferences ( your computer is powerful enough)

3. Ensure your Virus Scan or Windows Updates, Scheduled Maintenance are NOT running in the background.

Happy editing

Hi Neil,
Thanks for your reply.

Re 1.
PD is installed on my C drive.
ALL media file are at the same internal drive that is used to PD projects, not C drive.

Re 2. Shadow edit file is turned off. I got that hint already when I started using PD.

Re 3.
I am not quite sure I understand you.
I don't dare to turn off the virus program every time I try to use PD.
Scheduled Maintenance are, as far as I know, only virus scan once at week.

Nice of You to wish happy editing :
- I'm not quite happy because PD too often halt and I have to 'Save Project' every time I have done something not to loose too much.
I even had to uninstall and reinstall PD last week because WaveEditor suddently didn't work.
But this is an other storry - has been like this from the beginning and the problem has never been solved even if it was posted about a year ago and many nice helpfull people has come up with good suggestions.

Cheers, Anja

Turning off the Virus scanner is bad advice. However there are virus scanners that interfere with Powerdirector's operations.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It does not interfere with Powerdirector.

What is shadow edit file and why/where do disable it?

It is in Preferences on the General Tab.

When in the Edit Module, Press ALT+C, select General on the left panel.

Check box says "Enable HD video processing (shadow file)".
Uncheck that check box.

Why to uncheck is because it takes time for Powerdirector to generate the shadow files and if you do not wait for the file to be generated, PD does not work correctly.

You do not need that function if your computer is powerful enough to handle HD videos.

Hi Anja

Are you saying that media files are not on your C drive?

If so, ensure ALL files are on your C drive - preferably in the same folder for all future projects. Do not try this or move your source files on your current project.

PowerDirector 'works' by gathering all the files that you have and assembling them in the media library and in turn on the timeline.

If you have your files scattered on lots of different drives PD finds it difficult to find these quickly. This would explain the slow editing.

Hi Neil,
NO I don't want to use the C drive to anything else than Windows OS and programs because my media files needs lots of space.

I have a special drive for videos and an other for images but I copy all the media files I want to use in a project to the D drive an internel SATA disk (so my files are not scattered on lots of different drives) which is my working drive for PD (also set up in preferences). So PD use this drive to temperary files e.t.c.

I do not move any files from the D drive before a project is closed and has been exported to my backup drive. (just i case)

Since your and my last reply to you I found out that if I disable some tracks (I am only working with 10) while doing the modyfy it works faster - at least a few seconds - so what the idea to tell you can work with 100 tracks if yo get performance problems when using only 10.

Still thanks for your reply,
cheers

Hi all,
even with troubles of working slow (as mentioned above very, very slow), unwantd gabs, halt again and again, twice reinstall I now have produced a video at at about five and a half minut (it's not perfecet) that can be shared wih my famely and friends who celebrated me and my husbands birhsday last summer.

http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/video/823076

I can't count how many times I had to restart PD in the process.

Still for future use I would like to know what to do to make modify works faster.

Good Job!

More computer makes Powerdirector work better.
That video is a lot of transitions, hard work for a computer.

Hi Anja

Great production - well done

And a bottle of Australian wine as well

My local wine making area is the Yarra Valley in Victoria, they make absolutely stunning wines.

If you can get it in Denmark, try the De Bortoli range. Crisp whites and luscious reds.

Happy editing Happing editing
