slow choppy playback of .mts format video
[Post New]
I was doing video fine on full version power director 9 when I was using my Canon DSLR which also takes video. I enjoyed video, so decided to get a dedicated camcorder. Problem is, the format of the videos is .mts and they run very slow and choppy in power director 9 to the point that I can so nothing to edit them. It's very frustrating.

Can anyone help? Here are the specs of my computer...

Two things to check:
1. How much free space is on the C drive, you need about 100 GB free to edit HD video.
2. What are your preview settings?
Preview setting is the rectangle under the time readout. Click on it and try High or Normal.

You have a quad core CPU, which is good. Your Graphics is OK, however you should check the manufacturer's web site for the latest driver.

Hi Dustie,

From your spec I'm guessing it's a high-end laptop. As Carl says with that spec you shouldn't be having problems. However I notice your CPU is specified with a range of speeds 1.6Ghz to 2.8Ghz. Presumably that means that it can slow the clock speed to save power so is there any way to make sure that it runs at the highest possible speed for PD9? Maybe you have some other processes running which are eating into your processor time. One thing you could try is to up the priority of the PD9 process : go into Task Manager, select the Processes tab and find PDR9.EXE. Right click on it and select Set Priority then try choosing a higher setting from the displayed list. I'd try increasing it one step at a time and see if there's any improvement. While you're in the Processes window also check to see if anything other than the System Idle process is consuming CPU resources.

Thanks Fen and Carl. My hard drive (number one since it's dual 500 GB hard drives) is only 1/4 full, since most my files go on an external harddrive. I did go in and upgrade the driver of the graphic card. I also went into Task Manager and upped the priority. I've tried everything suggested but to no avail. I just can't figure it out. Dustie

Wow..discovered if I use the recordings direct from the SD card before importing them to the computer, I can play and edit them in PD9. Not sure why, but it's finally working!

Spoke too soon. It works from the SD card, but when I rendered it using PD9 into .mov format and then tried to play it back it went right back to choppy. What is going on?... very frustrating. Dustie

Hi

Have the source video files been transferred to your computer? And are they on your C drive?

Is there another program running in the background - like a virus scan?

Also what make of laptop do you have?

Thanks Neil,

So simple...my bad! I couldn't help but think it had to be something I wasn't doing right, but just couldn't figure it out!

To me I was saving the files direct from my SD card to my computer...and I was about to answer your question to that effect when it dawned on me that, technically, I was NOT saving them to my computer, but rather to my external hard drive where I save all my files. So, before I answered, I decided to give it a try and, low and behold, if I first save the files from the SD card to my Computer (ASUS G73J Series) desktop, then they will load into power director and work! Finally success!

Thanks for all the help everyone! Dustie
