Create Disc hangs half way through Authoring Process

Hello, and Happy New Year!

I just purchased and downloaded the latest PD 10. I created a movie and tried to create disc. The Authoring Progress bar took somewhere around 30 minutes to increment to 48%, then stopped. Its been at 48% for about 8 hours now. The time remaining is decrementing from 5 hours, so I am going to let it sit till tonight, just in case it might do something. Task manager indicates that PD10.exe and RichVideo are idle. The TSAudio directory was created and is empty, TS_Video contains a zero-byte file.
I haven't answered some of the questions below, because I wan't to let PD run uninteruped until its Time remaining counts down to zero.

1. Windows 7 Professional SP1

2. PowerDirector.exe Product version: 10.0.0.1129

3. Which SR number (available in the "About" box of PD and is NOT the CD-Key!)

4. What kind of video source material used:
.mpg, Len: 1h:54m, 720x480, 4.30GB, captured from VHS

5. A detailed step by step description of the problem.
See Above.
6. What anti-virus solution is installed on your PC?
Microsoft Security Essentials

7. What codec packs installed? See PD's Readme html file
I didn't see a readme

8. What other video editing programs are installed - just in case there is a software conflict.
I uninstalled Nero, nothing else installed

9. What burning software is installed on your PC?
I uninstalled Nero, nothing else installed

10. What type of blank disk was used, if you have a burning create issue?
Didn't get that far

11. What background processes / programs running (especially important for problems with the burning)?
See attached

12. Provide the dxdiag log file as an attachment, see Part B below
Attached

Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Jeff

Hi Jeff -

You're running a mid-range system, but it doesn't sound like you're asking too much of it in this case.

A couple of things from your DxDiag:
1. Only 36GB free on your C drive. This is above the minimum requirements, but might be a factor! http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/requirements_en_AU.html
2. GPU driver is not current http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-285.62-whql-driver.html

Questions:
Have you tried unchecking "Burn to Disc" & just creating a DVD folder?
Have you tried rendering the whole 1hr 54min video to DVD HQ & using that produced file to create the disc?
What is in the timeline at 48% (or thereabouts)?

Cheers - Tony

Keep in mind, PD10 only really supports DVD HQ, the smart fit option really is not very useful unless you are nearly blind and don't care at all about quality. It simply reduces the frame size and bitrate too much for general TV viewing, in my opinion of course. A standard 4.7GB DVD will hold ~1hr of DVD HQ quality video. Since your are well over 1hr footage for the basic 4.7GB DVD, be sure to select the 8.5GB in disc type when you uncheck "Burn to Disc" & just create a DVD folder.

PD10 does not support a SP option for 2hrs video on a single 4.7GB DVD like some previous version of PD.

THANK-YOU for this VALUABLE bit of information JLJL! All I do is burn raw footage to DVD for training purposes (with minimal editing)and having an SP Option is very important. I was considering upgrading to PD10, but you've saving me from the trouble. Is there Anything else that has been stripped from PD10 that was in the prior version?

In gratitude..

Allen, if you are still using 4:3 footage and sticking with a 4:3 project, you will have SP.

Some Success!

I got the latest gpu driver, freed up a few GBs on C: and created files at 4:3, SP, without burning, to a second HDD. I woke this morning to find that it successfully created the files. I'm thinking that SP will be good enough quality considering that my source files are so poor that a slight decrease in quality wont be very noticeable.
I'll try burning to DVD+R Single Layer tonight. (or maybe I'll get some double-layer discs and some memory on the way home tonight)

Thanks All!
