Thanks for the hasty responses guys i will answer both of you as best i can.
Bubba, im a little confused by your question: you ask if i have tried rendering the footage in a different format?
May i also note that the program renders full HD video content fine in the AVC HD format, and at considerably faster speed; however the file size is a little on the large side, so id rather have wmv.
that would be a yes
However if you were asking if i had tried a different profile type within the WMV format, thats also a yes xD. I have indeed tried rendering the footage in a less than full HD WMV format, worked fine.
I have also tried rendering a single clip of the footage, about 4GB worth, which is about 2 or so minutes, that worked fine also. But, like many i am a perfectionist, aand as such i want to have the best content i can have, and see no reason to settle for anything less; that means full HD. I Hope that answered your question
Tony, my main reson for wishing to render in the WMV format was that, as far as i can see it is the smallest file size of all the full HD content after rendering; but as such it will obviously take more time to render the footage. Having said this, space saving is not the issue, as you can see from my dxdiag i have a plentiful hard drive.
Its was originally to do with time, smaller files take less time to upload to youtube for obvious reasons. However, as i have had to make do with AVC recently, i have found it to be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other; that is to say that wmv takes far longer to render, but AVC takes far longer to upload. In essense one negates the other
So, this means that the time factor seems to be negated, and as such i am actually favouring the AVC format. I know im preeching to the choir here but, to give context to less experienced members in a similar predicament; rendering is far more intensive on the system than uploading, meaning i cannot record footage smoothly whilst doing it.
However, with AVC i can render the footage in about 30mins, as opposed to the 2 or so hours it would take with the WMV format. Due to this, i am able to spend more time recording gameplays, and i can leave my computer on overnight to upload as much content as i want. so it actually seems that AVC is the far more convenient option for me.
However, i am still eger to get to the bottom of this because i like my options to be open, and to be honest im kind of interested as to what the problem actually is.
To continue answering your questions, the capturing software i use is Fraps, so the raw footage is of the AVI file format.
As for the project causing the problem, that is, as far as i can tell, not the case.
Since reading many of the posts here before making my own i have already looked at what time the rendering failed, incase it was a transition or something that was the cause; but alas, it was simply an arbitrary point in the middle of a clip, to which i had made no modifications.
Finally, since that particular project was not rendering, and while the problem was still in its infancy i tried to render another gameplay video, same raw file format, similar length to the first, similar modifications (3 fade transitions each in the same places). It too failed at the 8-10% mark, where nothing of note was on the timeline.
As for rendering and re-rendering; well that would defeat the purpose really. Then i would have the disadvantages of both formats and the advantages of niether. So as far as im concerned thats not an option
I hope ive answered coherently enough guys; even if it was a little rantish and sprawling at times, i just want to give you as much info as possible so we can skip the basics, and find a solution
if you need any more information ill be happy to supply it.
Thanks - Stevo.
