After update I get error on my .avi files
[Post New]
I just updated PD9-Ultra-64 and I get this error:
An error has occurred while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason, etc...

The video was taken using:
FRAPS version 3.4.7, build 13808 .avi file Windows Areo
Windows 7 64-bit
and this PC - http://williamwendland.com/PC.shtml
I'm sure I have created several movies on youtube with PD9, and FRAPS.

Not sure if this was present before the update,
as I have not made any movies in quite some time.
the files play on my machine in Windows Media Player.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

AVI is a container, meaning AVI can have any compression format.

You would need you use MediaInfo to find out what format is in the AVI container.

Powerdirector 9 and 10 do not support XVID or DIVX, except on some 32 bit platforms. There is not a 64 bit codec for those two compression formats yet.

FRAPS is known to produce files that are not compatible with Powerdirector in some formats.

A conversion program can take a FRAPS created AVI and make a video that will work in Powerdirector.

Thanks very much for the reply,

I opened the .avi files in the FREE Windows Live Movie Maker,
and edited my video, then uploaded to youtube from within.

I hope there will be an update for PD8 Ultra-64 so I can edit my .avi files FRAPS
I would hate to have to buy PD10 when I have only edited a handful of movies.

Anyway, I really like PD8, just need it to edit my FRAPS EVGA X99 FTW

You can still edit your FRAPS, you just have to convert the FRAPS AVI to a file format that PD8 can import.

There a a ton to free file converters on the internet that would do the job.

You just need to know the format inside the AVI.

MediaInfo will tell you that. Look for a free AVI to MPG or MP4 converter.
