PowerDirector 8 - HD files are black when put on Timeline

I recently bought a new camcorder that creates HD files. When I put them on the timeline, the audio works but no video. I read another post that talked about making sure the Shadow files finish creating and I did. I also read where it said that I may need a new Codec so I installed the K-Lite Video Pack and it still doesn't work. I have PowerDirector 8. My Camcorder is a Canon Vixia HF S20 and it creates MTS files.

What version of PD 8 do you have?

Only the retail Ultra and Deluxe can edit HD files.

Part A and Part B.

Maybe you need to re-install Powerdirector 8.

Hi Purp,

Just curious, are the files on your hard drive or still in the camcorder? I have a Canon Vixia HF R100 and can import the mts files without any problems. Check to see if you have the latest Quicktime installed, also the latest update for PD8 is 3022.

I copied the files off the camcorder onto the hard drive of my PC. I will check quicktime to see if I have the latest version of it. I do have the latest updates for PowerDirector 8.

If nothing else is suggested, you might try reading through this thread and if you are OK with the registry edit give it a try - it is reversible and has never caused me any problem but all systems are different so.... It applies to PD9 in the thread but, from memory, PD8 is similar.
