Just a quick thought/question: If I install on an external hard drive, that should be like a clean install, shouldn't it? So anything installed on my main drive won't interfere with it.

Hi Dafydd, I've attached a text file with a step by step guide to what I have done today. Whilst I haven't repeated the process, I just don't see that it would yield any different results.
To be honest, I'm think I'm going to try for a refund - I do appreciate all the time and effort spent on trying to help me, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't look like this is going to work for me.
By the way, I have tried Pinnacle Studio 14 and it has worked and produces an AVCHD disc, like I want PD8 to do. It is however, a bit choppy during playback, but that may just be some settings. I'm reluctant to throw more money at this project though...

RESOLUTION HAS BEEN REACHED!!
I saw a post by Donald today in which he suggests that pre-rendering files has worked for him, so I gave it a try.
I produced each individual clip in AVCHD format to PC folder, imported the clips back in .m2ts format, edited, produced a full movie to PC folder, imported the full movie and burned to AVCHD disk.
A bit long winded, but it woked!
Dafydd, I must thank you for the time you've spent on this with me.

Hi Bjorn,
Thank you for posting so much information.
I have raised the issue with R&D at CyberLink. I'm not happy that you've had to resort to a workaround to get a solution. The method of rendering sections and bringing them back to form a project is not new and I'm really pleased it's worked in your case.
At least by making R&D aware of the issue, something might be found to avoid the need for a workaround.
