Ok...here is some GREAT information!!

I had PD8 build 2013 installed on my system. I received the Build 2207 and installed it. As it was installing it detected the previous version and removed it....then completed the installation.

I immediately imported a clip to the timeline and selected the Fix/Enhace...then selected Stabilizer and Split Screen.

The Stabilizer function and the Split Screen WERE NOT SEEN in the Preview screen.

I followed the link that SAVE THE DAY Tony provided for the COMPLETE PROCEDURE for uninstalling and reinstalling Power Director.

Once I finished my reinstall Build 2207.......The Stabilizer and Split Screen were now functioning!! !!

I thought I would share this GOOD NEWS!!

Kevin

That is great news Kevin, I am glad it worked out for you.

However why should people have to delve in the registry, where there is a good chance if they delete the wrong section that they can hose their entire system, just to properly uninstall a program. Honestly I have been doing all of these workarounds all year trying to get get around PD's problems and I am just sick and tired of it.

I know this doesn't help anyone and it is just me ranting, accept maybe, just maybe, Cyberlink will properly test their programs BEFORE they get people to pay for it and I have paid for it TWICE. One more chance Cyberlink to fix the i7 cpu and 32 bit memory problem or I am gone.

Cheers

Hey Robert,

You are right Robert....but....delving into the registry isn't that unusual....just my opinion of course. I followed the directions and the results were self evident to me. It worked! But I understand your frustration...

Now I didn't test just Uninstalling PD8 Build 1930 first, then Installing PD8 Build 2207 WITHOUT touching the registry. That might have worked as well, but it was 1:00 am in the morning and I wasn't about to try a Second time!! hahahahaha

Hi Everyone, (sea captains, hang gliders, scuba divers, and those few of us who stay on terra firma)

I just wanted to chime in to confirm the bug found by Ivor.
I have a fresh 2207 (beta build?) install. Installed after a complete 1930 uninstall (both program and content packages/downloads with a registry clean).

And exactly as Ivor wrote above, neither the Stabilize nor Split Screen function work at all when footage is first placed in timeline. But... if I save to .pds-1 > open with .pds-1 (I believe Xerox suggested this, good call Xerox!), then the Stabilize and Split Screen options now miraculously begin to function properly.

I have not tried the standard un-install/re-install fix all procedure, as I am 99% sure that the method I have always used to do the old un-install/install dance, through various versions and builds, did a proper 1930 un-install the first time.
Perhaps Dafydd can confirm if this is now a known bug, and ensure that Cyberlink is aware of it.

I can confirm that a clean install of Windows XP does not fix the problem. So how can anything else fix the problem?

When testing, exit out of PRE8 first, then start it up, do not open an existing project, import a video clip you've never imported into any version of PowerDirector, drag to timeline, then see if stabilize works and split screen work. And don't use Nature.mpg for a video clip.

I feel for you Xeros, I did a clean install of Vista only installing PD7 early this year trying to get PD to work properly with the stabilisation module. It didn't get fixed until I upgraded to PD8, which unfortunately has added other bugs.

Cheers

I wanted to say that I feel bad for those that are having so many troubles. I hope any solutions to these irritating hiccups can be resolved.

But at least I don't feel alone sitting here on my rock in the middle of the Atlantic but I will trust the helm to other more experienced members steering this boat!! I just hope it stays afloat!!!

Man the pumps and heave the anchor!!

Well, maybe now Cyberlink will realize that there is indeed an issue. They told me they had never heard of this problem before.

Thanks for all your support on this issue and all the good information.

After speaking with tech support yesterday they told me they would escalate my case and send me information to produce some log files which I should send to them. They said I would get the information right after the call. I am still waiiting.......

Hi,
I took up what had been written here (by Cranston) and referred this issue to CyberLink for testing. They have been unable to reproduce the issue. I had a report back on Friday.

OK, I placed an .mp4 (1280x720) in the media library
I selected Stabilizer
I split the screen
I can clearly see the stabilizer working.

I have repeated the action with 4 different video clips.

I can not replicate the issue reported by Ivor.

Please Ivor attach a diagnostic file to your next post.

Instructions:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page
Subject: PowerDirector - information we request and tasks to carry out.
PART A - name it
PART B - provide it

A bug has to be replicated by R&D and confirmed.

Dafydd,

It happens to me, PD8, 2220 and I also reported it in a review I sent you. However, it is not consistant and I can not put a sequence together that I can exactly repeat and have the issue appear again. I've repeated the same events as to when it occured with the same exact clip and then it is okay. When I had the issue with my own mpg file I dropped the CL Nature.mpg file into the time line and it had the same issue. I've actually had my own clip display the split correctly sometimes and not sometimes, by the way, its the only thing in the timeline. I'd tend to believe that it is not clip releated, but event related. Reminds me of the vanishing green tick issue.

I think I found a senerio that triggers the event, it might be related to the size of the video file you are working with.

1) drag PD8 Nature.mpg to the time line. Duplicate a bazillion times to get about 43 minutes worth of video
2) produce this to a file, mpeg2, DVD HQ
3) EXIT PD8 and launch again and only import the produced 43 minute video of Produce.mpg in the time line
4) select Fix / Enhance Lighting Adjustment and the split window and it does not work.

If I simply put one PD8 supplied Nature.mpg in the timeline of a new project the Fix / Enhance Lighting Adjustment and the split window works correctly.

I repeated the whole sequence above multiple times and it was repeatable so maybe this will give CL Dev something to work with.

Hi Dafydd,

Just to add more info to the mix, I’ve now done 4 experiments with the Fix/Enhance issue. Each test had the same results as I posted above.

In the latest test, I placed a 1280x720p Divx clip (from an internet HD Sample Clips site - and a 640x360 WMV clip (produced in PD7) - and a 1280x720 MTS AVCHD/h.264 (test clip provided by member), in the Master track. Total duration about 3 minutes.
None of the Fix/Enhance tools (including Split Screen) would respond, unless I first saved to pds > closed PD > then re-opened with the saved pds.
The only exception is the Color Adjustment tool (including Split Screen). It always functions properly on the first try.

I have ruled out updating, as others have reported the same problem with 2220. And I understand that some members find it to be a random glitch. And of course you stated that you could not replicate the issue.
But with the small amount of testing I’ve done with my system, it appears to be a consistent issue for me, that is only resolved by employing Xerox’s save to pds workaround.

Now as I frequently save to pds anyway, this Fix/Enhance glitch and workaround, really isn't a big deal for me. But I just thought I'd throw my latest results out there for what it's worth.

Here's another piece of the puzzle regarding Fix/Enhance not working on my machine. It has to do with whether I import a folder or just a file.

Stabilize works:
1. Exit PowerDirector 8 build 2220
2. Start PowerDirector8 build 2220
3. File > Import > Media *Folder* (contains some dv-avi files).
4. Drag one of the dv-avi files from the media room to the timeline.
5. Click the Fix/Enhance button.
6. Select Stabilize and Split Screen.
That works for me.

Stabilize fails:
1. Exit PowerDirector 8 build 2220
2. Start PowerDirector8 build 2220
3. File > Import > Media Files. Select one dv-avi file from some folder.
4. Drag the dv-avi file from the media room to the timeline.
5. Click Fix/Enhance button.
6. Select Stabilize and Split Screen.
That doesn't work for me.

Hi Xerox,

You are absolutely correct again. I ran a test, and my system behaves exactly as you outlined above.

- Import single Mpeg2 clip from a folder...
Fix/Enhance & Split Screen does not respond.

Close/Re-open PD

- Import the whole folder, then drag the same Mpeg2 clip to the timeline...
Fix/Enhance & Split Screen responds perfectly.

This is "fun", thanks guys for the additional input.

I duplicated Nature.mpg into the Video Track.
Placed over 3 minutes worth.
Rendered to DVD HQ as per Jeff's basic instruction.
I shut down PD.
Re-opened PD
Now I followed my usual import method
In my second monitor I located the directory with the Produce.mpg
Dragged it into Media Library
Clicked on Fix/Enhance
Selected Split preview and then selected Stabilizer
Everything worked - the squirrel section was stable etc.

OK, I then followed Xerox's method - the second one. I substituted my Produce.mpg as my file choice.
"Stabilize fails:
1. Exit PowerDirector 8 build 2220
2. Start PowerDirector8 build 2220
3. File > Import > Media Files. Select one dv-avi file from some folder.
4. Drag the dv-avi file from the media room to the timeline.
5. Click Fix/Enhance button.
6. Select Stabilize and Split Screen.
That doesn't work for me. "
I can confirm I replicated the issue.

Excellent. Thank you everyone.

Dafydd

Dafydd,

Do you know if Cyberlink will be addressing all this in the next build update? You really can not expect the average Joe to go though all this trouble to get these features to work properly. Q9300 2.5 GHz
4 GB Ram
Nvidia 9800 GT

Hi James,
The issue was replicated by CyberLink R&D and should in theory be part of the next patch update.

Hi,
I just want to add that if I follow the methos suggested by Xerox that let the Fix tools work fine. (import media folder method) and then I

1) Save the project
2) Close PD8
3) Open PD8
4) Open the project saved in step 1

THe fix tools, including the split view will not work.
I tried it with both .mts and .avi files
