DirectorZone utterly useless again!

Barry -

That's another little issue that does nothing to enhance to DZ's "less-than-useful" reputation. Some installations of PDR have a defective/out-of-date/incomplete EffectExtractor, making it impossible for users to install DZ effects.

kollmaalden - have a look here - http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/41623.page#217847 - it may help. Also, double clicking should automatically install an effect using EffectExtractor. If not, right click - choose Open With > DirectorZone Menu. Make it the default.

If none of that helps, try Barry's reinstall suggestion.

Cheers - Tony

Quote: Perhaps "utterly useless much of the time" would have been a more accurate description. The point is that when I am editing, and suddenly find the need to seek an asset from the D-Zone, the rotten performance really interferes with the creative process.

I get the same thing when using Wordpress sometimes. Technical slow downs are really a creative buzz-kill.

Tried the reinstall, didn't work. Found Effects Extractor tried to open with it got a little box with a triangular symbol in it but that's all. this is the most frustrating problem I have had in a while. I can usually find a way around the issues but it seems like DZ is untenable! I've been working with computers for nearly 40 years (as an electronic tech and user not a software guy tho!!). I seems like in their quest to make software idiot proof and "user friendly" it has taken on levels of complexity that I can't understand anymore. I will try to load PD13 when the disk arrives and go from there, hopefully will all work out. Thanks for your suggestions!

Hi kollmaalden -

Did you try replacing the EffectsExtractor with the one I attached in that post? http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/41623.page#217847

Seriously, it's worked for lots of folks having the same problem.

Members,

It would be appreciated it if you could post particular issues with using DirectorZone in this thread http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/0/43186.page#223144

There's also a simple poll you can vote in if you wish.

Something that may assist is to attach screenshots showing errors with upload, download or installation of effects from DirectorZone.

All issues posted will be reported to the DZ team at CyberLink.

I think the internet browser you are using when having issues may also be helpful.
As for me, I never have installation problems, it's only slow or non-existing site performance, no matter the browser. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.

AOL dial up 15 years ago was faster than DZ is today and that includes the dial tones and hook up tones. Yeesh...give us something to work with here. What a pain. Charlie
