PD10 trial hangs on second monitor

Forgot to mention that PD9 is fine on both systems with both monitors, never hangs.

I finally realized it's possible to have PD9 and PD10 side-by-side without constant uninstalls/reinstalls so it's much faster for me to test now

One bug I did notice : on the AMD system, with PD9 starting on the card controlled by the nVidia card, and "hardware decoding" enabled, once I move it to the second monitor controlled by the AMD card, the video preview window is green. PD9 probably doesn't realize that the AMD GPU cannot do hardware decode (or maybe does it in a different way). If I turn off hardware decoding, then it can play the video fine on both monitors. Realistically, I will not be running with nVidia+AMD GPU, I just did that for testing purpose - I only want to use the faster nVidia. But I thought I would mention this other bug still.

Dafydd,

Not sure if you/Cyberlink are still looking into this, but the if I revert to the WDDM drivers for nVidia (non-accelerated), then I don't see this problem.

So this is something with PD10 + nVidia + AMD system somehow. sigh.

To me it the problem appears to be monitors of different resolutions and graphic card.
If I were you I would try to get a monitor with same resolution and try. If this failed try switching the card.
Tell me does your games play well in dual monitor ? PC specs :
OS Windows 10.0 Pro
MB - AS rock Z77 extreme 11
Intel 3770K @ 4.0 Ghz OC
Gskill 32 GB RAM 1800 Mhz
6 TB HDD, SSD bootable
nVidia ASUS GTX 660 Ti
BenQ 22" LCD monitor 1920x1080

It turns out that Windows does indeed allow the resolution to be changed on the second monitor.
I have to assume the GPU is doing the scaling. I know the monitor only accepts two resolutions : 1280x800 and 2560x1600. You can only get the former with a single-link DVI connection, and the later with dual-link DVI.

So, I set the second monitor at 1920x1200, which matches the first one.
I repeated the experiment with PD10 - it hung again.
So much for it being a resolution issue.

If this failed try switching the card.

Well, I have two XFX 9800GT. I have switched them around between the two machines. Hang problem remains on the AMD box. So I don't think it's the card. Looks like a software problem to me.
Something between PD10 & nVidia drivers, IMO.

I don't play any games whatsoever, so I couldn't tell you.

Hmm, One more question
Do both monitors operate at same frequency 50/60 Hz ? PC specs :

Yes both 60 Hz.
I really don't think it's monitor related at all.
As I posted earlier, with the WDDM drivers (unaccelerated) there is no problem with PD10 and the 2 monitors.
It's a software issue between PD10 and the nVidia drivers.

It might very well be a limitation of the trial version. Unfortunately, good details of the trial version capability are nonexistent but we all know it’s not a time bomb of the full version. Considering all the other PD10 products, HE3D, HE, DE, LE, all DO NOT support dual preview, it wouldn't surprise me if the trial PD10 did not support it as well. Deluxe and Ultra PD10 do support.

The only limitation i have found in the trial so far is that software encoding is not available for H.264, only hardware GPU encoding. When I tried to use it with the built-in ATI HD4290 GPU on the motherboard, I couldn't encode H.264 at all

One would hope that a limitation like the one you mention wouldn't manifest itself in the form of an application hang, though. That is just bad coding manners.

Quote: Dafydd,
FYI, on my Intel P35 system, GA-P35-DS3R motherboard, with an old Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz CPU, 16GB DDR2, all is fine, with the same nVidia 9800GT video card, and the same 2 monitors (first one attached through KVM, second has multiple DVI in).

Actually, scratch that, just tried it again, and it hangs there too on the Intel box. So at least there is some consistency.
It narrows it down to PD10 + accelerated nVidia drivers + 2 monitors.

What options does the trail PD show for the Display options setting for "Dual Preview" on your box?

PD10 trial shows either "Off" or "Primary 2D and secondary 2D display".

But I want to stress I'm not even trying to use dual preview.
I am merely trying to move PD10 from the smaller to the larger monitor. That's when it hangs.

I got a GTX 560 Ti card tonight.
Same hang problem with PD10.
So, it was definitely not the card.
