Hey there, just thought I'd post my results from trying what abslayer suggested - that is, making a high quality MPEG-4 and 'burning' it to a folder, then using Nero to burn it to a DVD. (And yes, the pictures really helped me 'get it'!
)
My problem is a mis-match of technology - my new video camera is way ahead of my TV, and waaaaay ahead of my DVD player. So although a high quality MPEG-4 looks great on my computer, I don't have the technology to play it on my tele. The two-step process of making the DVD provided me with a definite increase in visual quality. Of course, it is nothing like the picture quality when all the technologies are at the same level, but for me it seems like a helpful interim measure. Many thanks to Tony, Carl and Barry for clarifying the technical issues through this thread.
This leads me to another question - when you're in-between technologies, what is the best way to store your video? It's probably different enough for a new thread, so I'll go ahead and start one. Thanks. (Here it is:
