Hi,

can you please disabl/uninstall your virtual ODD and check again?

please also check for latest VGA and audio driver.

Please let me know whic codec packs you have installed - some of them remove PowerDVD codecs.

Yeah, that.s not meant to be a virtual ODD - it's a recovery partition of an external USB HDD. Something weird happened in Windows and it's started showing up as an ODD, and occasionally on booting launches an autorun dialogue and wants to play files on the disk. (Bloody Windows 7!!) To fix it I think I'm going to have to completely reformat the drive. But it's been happening since before PDVD went strange.

please also check for latest VGA and audio driver.

Already have - I'm running the latest.

Please let me know which codec packs you have installed - some of them remove PowerDVD codecs.

Only have FLAC installed, plus the utility for encoding and decoding APE files (which isn't actually a codec). Have some plug-ins installed in foobar, but they are only called on when needed wthin that app, not installed into the general system.

Which codecs make a mess of PDVD?

Michael, I'm really unhappy with this purchase. You seem to have an understanding of the company and who to speak with: How do I go about cancelling the purchase and getting a refund?

My reason: The tech support issue I opened on the software not functioning has simply been closed, without resolution or even constructive input from the tech team. They told me to take a screen capture of a dialog that shows the problem - a function that is specifically disabled in PDVD, so what the heck were they thinking?! - and now the incident appears to have been simply closed. At least, I'm unable to post a comment or reply, and it's over a week since I heard from them.

I'm left with software that doesn't function, and the tech support issue I've raised on that is closed without resolution or even comment? I think this is appalling treatment of a customer. Do they expect me to just write off the purchase and leave it at that?

How do I further this, please?

dude...firstly...who doesn't know starwars is fox... like *the* most memorable fanfare before a movie ever...

secondly...reset your region count back to 5 by entering this (below) as a batch file and re-installing (be sure to have all your upgrade versions if necessary)...

i'm an avast user and the only way to not have it go mental and back to 0 each time powerdvd(11).exe crashes is *not* set it, play a bluray and have the app *ask* me.. then... if powerdvd does crash, when you restart - you'll remain at 4 changes like you should...

batch file to reset before re-install------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for any help, Michael.

The original case number was CS001067848. When that got closed without resolution, I had to open a new case number to even ask about it. That new case is CS001070873.

I've read the FAQ about refunds. It's not my preferred option, but if Cyberlink is going to close the case without even an attempt to resolve it, then what choice do I have? I'm merely concerned because the time is running out, and I don't want Cyberlink saying "You can't have a refund -- it's more than thirty days" when all that time has been spent waiting for a tech response that isn't coming.

The only response I've had to the latest case is simply, "You have to wait - they're investigating." But no-one's even tried anything, so what is it they're supposedly investigating? Since I live in Region B for Blu-rays, and the software has locked itself on Region A, I can't even use the software.

Do you get why I'm unhappy with this?

@cyberlink - bad form to close a case with no resolution

@bran - you'll get nowhere with tech... they're more concerned with retarded things like your dxdiag even for problems like yours that are *plainly* nothing do do with drivers and stuff. copy and paste the code from my above post into a notepad file called regionreset.bat and run it and then re-install powerdvd... you'll be back to 5 changes (and when you are...don't set B yourself...play a disk and have the app *ask* you and *only then* set it. it's because when pdvd crashes, *something* changes in your appdata folder and it's unable to read your changes any more so it assumes you are a bit naughty and puts you at 0. not helped by the uninstaller leaving these things behind preventing you from progressing.

Thanks for your help, 86sixsix.

Yeah, I tried using the "clean" batch file Michael had posted in the Forum FAQ, but whatever these hidden codes are that are preventing PDVD from working properly, that left them still present. When I re-installed, I was met with the same issue still.

So, does this mean I would need to clean out my installation and re-install the programme after every 5 region changes?

i just had a look at their scripts (i only saw an exe file with scipts in - no batch file??) in the cleanup thing they posted - no, it won't touch your change count at all.

if i was in your situation bran (and i have been several times hahaha) i would:

1) uninstall powerdvd
2) run the *cyberlink* cleanup utility
3) run my batch file code
4) reboot
5) re-install powerdvd and latest patch
6) immediately play a store-bought bluray and have the app *ask* you to pick a region.

when it has asked you (as opposed to you setting it yourself *beforehand*) if it crashes in future, you can simply reboot and it will have the brain-power to remember you are at 4 changes. obv, if you make further changes...then it still decreases as it should do.

Michael,
Thanks. It's now two days later, and I haven't been contacted.

Is it not reasonable to think I would have heard something? Even if it's just an acknowledgement that the matter needs to be addressed?

I object to being reduced to a complainer, but Cyberlink doesn't seem to be interested in this matter, so what else can I do?

Bran
