1Nina;
Since you use the older build of PD9, I wouldn't think your experience is typical. IS that correct?

Well, I am on 2930 and still no problems. I moved to 280.26 some weeks ago, and I use my computer daily. PD, Various Canon Utilities, Spectraview Profiler, iMatch Profiler, Sony Handicam stuff, experiments with Mercalli and NewBlue, Adobe PS, LR, DW etc. No BSD, No problems with PD.

If I had the problems others are having, I would do some investigation to see where the problem actually lies. Booting up in Safe Mode with all installed stuff and services held back - then progressively reintroducing startup and services until the crash occurred.. detailed elsewhere or easy to find through Google.

One other thing though. I had a problem with Mercalli stabiliser and rolled back the NVIDIA driver. This didnt sort the Mercalli problem and I reinsntalled 280.26. In order to sort the Mercalli problem, I had occasion to unload all my KLite codecs and reinstalled the latest. Perhaps that may be why I seem to be spared the horrors? My KLCP is 7.6.0 (Full).

Be nice if this helps....

I had been back and forth with this problem since asking about it, and finally found something that seems to have fixed it with 280.26.

- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel
- Select 3D Settings / Manage 3D Settings
- On the Global Settings tab, select "Power Management Mode" setting
- Change Power Management Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
- Select the "Apply" button
- Select the Program Settings tab
- Select the "Add" button and browse to C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector\
- Select PDR9.exe and click on Open
- Under "Select a program to customize:" ensure PDR9.exe is selected
- Change Power Management Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
- Select the "Apply" button.
- Close the NVIDIA Control Panel and reboot.

Adding the program and changing the the setting specifically for PDR9.exe probably is not necessary after changing the Global setting, but I did it just to make sure there were no excuses.

After making the above changes I've been able to split, move, expand and contract clips and do everything that caused the "driver not responding" error before, with no problems.

Hopefully this will work for someone else, too.

I have not had to resort to settings in NVIDIA, but I only use max performance settings... set in Power Management

I couldn't even install 280.26 to find out whether it worked or not with my machine and GeForce 9400 GT card. The install would abort with error messages. I've never received error messages with any prior version when installing. The partial install made my machine unstable and I had to do a system restore. Gateway DX4380, AMD A8-5500 Quad Core 3.2GHz with ATI Radeon HD 7560D; 16GB RAM; 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM; Windows 8 Pro 64-bit; PDR11, PDVD12.

RESTORE POINTS FOLKS! ALWAYS!!!

It is important when installing the latest Nvidia drivers on some older systems (not sure WHEN they started this) that you select the "custom install" option. This presents a screen allowing you to select what to install.

For older or low-end cards...ONLY install the video drivers NOT HD Drivers, AUTOMATIC UPDATE or the 3D drivers (these are all checkboxes). You can always re-run the install package and install those if you succeed with the basic installation. There is also a new option that lets you do a CLEAN INSTALL of the drivers...removing the old ones.

Again, make SURE you have created a restore point. GOOGLE it if you need to..Windows7 has a different method to do this than XP.

EDITED based on Vapian correct statement below. PhysX is no longer an option!

Actually, 280.26 did not offer me the option to bypass the PhysX install - only the Updater, 3D driver and HD Audio features could be bypassed, IIRC.
