Hi BillSee,

so you have set the Region for BD to "B" and playback still fails?

Hello Michael,
The PowerDVD11 software defaults to Region Australia (detected by the OS settings). I also tried the manual approach using User defined=B - there is no doubt it is set to Australia.
My computer is going back to the shop tomorrow.
Regards
Bill

G'day all,
Here is the EXPLANATION of the problem I am having with PowerDVD 9 (and 11), but NOT the resolution.

I sent my PC back to the shop who re-imaged the HDD (Win 7 Pro 64) and kindly upgraded me to PowerDVD 11. The system played bluray discs, so I bought it home. It played my blurays here at home too... all good. Problem resolved??? Not quite...

So I set about installing my software. The first thing I did was to make an image. Next I installed the software that comes with my new Samsung Sycmaster CA550 (23in). This 1080 screen has a USB 3/2 hub and Ethernet port in the base and comes with its own software drivers on CD for the screen and hub (called Central Station). I installed these drivers and tried to play a bluray. Disaster - it FAILS to play with the same symptoms as I described when I tried the trial PowerDVD 11 version (seems to load the disc, but won't play and no play controls on the PowerDVD screen).

I then used Windows system restore to go back immediately prior to the Samsung software installation. Then loaded a bluray disc - lo and behold, PowerDVD 11 played it OK!

How about that Cyberlink and Samsung? Clearly there is conflict between Cyberlink PowerDVD 9/11 and Samsung's drivers for their screen and/or hub. Not sure which yet, but I have the hub (seemingly) working - at least with USB 2. However, Win Device Manager shows (under Other devices) that USB 3.0 Monitor has no drivers installed (exclamation mark); likewise for an Ethernet driver (probably the one required for the screen base).

All comments and possible directions/resolutions gratefully accepted.

Cheers
Bill

Test it thoroughly, because I thought I had our problem licked many times only to find it would return...

I was having the same freezing and crashing problems as you until at one point point PowerDVD gave me a prompt out of the blue that I needed to install Acer Arcade from their site; try it and let us know how you make out.
