Hello SeptimusFry,

If Robert is an example of the other members, then this is indeed an outstanding forum. Perhaps I will try this software on one of our older computers, if it happens to have a compatible video card. Having just spent more than $50,000 building our 4th edit suite, I am not going to make any changes at this time. Everything (except PD9) is working perfectly.

CyberLink is losing a significant market share by not support the 5800 series of video cards.

Another thing CyberLink needs to examine is capturing the new mfx container. We are purchasing our first of 3 Canon XF300 cameras, which use the new format, and the other software manufacturers are adding this format to their products in the coming weeks.

Thanks and best regards,
Ron Hills

Pax,

The reason I said I can't recommend this software to my students is not because of the forum, or the video card. It's because of the lack of tech support. IMO, tech support should have identified the video card issue when I sent them the dxdiag report 6 weeks ago.

The 30 days of free phone support should have been available for questions about how to use the software. The free phone support ended two weeks ago. The one time I tried calling tech support, I hung up after 30 minutes on hold.

I will say that I have never waited more than 1 business day for a response from Adobe. I've never used Avid or Sony Vegas tech support, so I don't know about them.

Maybe I'll try loading it on my Asus N71 laptop and pray that the computer doesn't self-destruct like an episode of Mission Impossible.

Best regards,

Can I ask if you are running a vanilla version of windows. I tell people my computer has been trouble free for over ten years but tha'ts only with vanilla windows. I always had problems with OEM windows and all the spy/advertising gunk they embed into it.

There is nothing like installing your own vanilla windows and you choosing whats installed or not.

Dave;
On all of the systems I build, I puchase an OEM Windows 7 Professional from Newegg.com. As vanilla as Ben & Jerrys.

Pax;
I just checked checked my Asus N71Q, and it has an ATI 5730, ANOTHER FRIKKIN' video card that CyberLink DOES NOT SUPPORT. To add insult to injury, it came with some CyberLink DVD software installed!

Well, if ever there were evidence of a reason NOT to delete these hardware-specific threads, this is it. The next person to come along with a 58xx problem has half a chance of finding this thread if it is there, but none at all if it is pulled.

From my own experience as a software developer, the only reason such and such a card is not supported is because the driver is not implemented correctly. When writing software, one wants to be HARDWARE INDEPENDENT, so calls are made in cofidence that they will have the intended action. If the driver has been done poorly in some respect, either the call may fail, due to some unexpected parameter being out of range, or missing, or the actual behaviour is not as it should be - ambiguity of phrasing in the specificaton. We talk of syntax and semantics. Syntax refers to the way a call should be made, the values of parameters etc. and can be expressed very exactly, but Semantics describes what the meaning is, and is very prone to ambiguity.

If the driver cannot behave correctly, one has the alternatives of warning people that our software is not compatible with this specific hardware, or perhaps a serious re-write which may disturb the compatibility of other hardware which behaves entirely as we would want. However, it would be rash of Cyberlink to say anything beyond incompatibility !!

Just in case one thinks I am speaking for CL, please note that I am a retired person living in Brittany and never had anything to do with CL other than using their apps. i7 980x; W7 Pro; 12GB; Nvidia GTX 285; 2x300G Velociraptors in Raid 0; 2x1.5TB Barracuda in Raid 1; 2TB WD Studio Ed.II (eSATA); NEC SpectraView Reference 2690 + MultiSync EA232

I'm not sure about how complete that list is, as my itty-bitty DM1z has an ATI HD4225, not on the list, yet I can edit quite nicely (without too much trickery).
I have both parallel processing and hardware acceleration.
A powerhouse it is not, but it works. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Ron Hills...Hello;
Just another set of "eyes" that I hope may help you troubleshoot this:\

1. The requirements section on CYBERLINK says support for "Radeon HD2600 and above" so I am not sure this is the source of your issue, or that you need to consider replacing it, although "Hardware Acceleration" setting may need to be turned-off (PD9 problem).
2. You are out of drive space in key areas (like the C: drive). I would be surprised if PD9 is the ONLY program giving you trouble. This is a major issue for the program. Free up some drive space.

3. Still not sure the actual BUILD of PD9 you are using. Please click on the word POWERDIRECTOR inside the program (upper right) and tell us the BUILD. I am running 9.0.0.2702. Having the most recent code is important.

I apologize if I didn't read ALL of the posts you made. As others here might tell you, I am allergic to venom and don't react well to prolonged exposure to same. I hope the items above help.

Fred, I don't think he ever got PD9 to run at all, so he has no way to see the build number that way.

He can look at the filename of the install file however, the build number is a part of the filename.

CyberLink.2504_trial_VDE101208-06.exe is the filename of the PD9 trial I have, the build number for this trial is 2504.

My bad! Sorry TheRaceReport2011, I missed that detail. However, depending on which one of your drives you are trying to save the file to and run from, space could come into play. I hope this observation/comment helps.

Carl, you are correct. I have never even seen PD9 because it will not open.
However, the latest patch I downloaded and installed was CyberLink.2702_Patch_VDE110120-07.exe.

I am back at the studio so I will begin trying some of the suggestions posted today and report back on the results.

Thanks to all who are trying to help solve this puzzle.

G: Archival storage of last year's footage.
C: 128GB SATA SSD programs & OS only
F: is our work drive, with more than 220GB available.

I am going to try running CL Cleaner and reinstalling from scratch. Before installing I will remove & reinstall all ATI drivers and remove and reinstall Quicktime.

Thanks all,

Well, I can't try the CLCleaner idea because they did not include a username and password for the ftp download.
The joke that CyberLink refers to as "tech support" just keeps getting funnier by the hour!

Question: Is anyone else running PD9 from a solid state drive? Ron

Yes I am running a OCZ 120 gig solid state drive as my C drive.

Well Ron I am at the end of my knowledge I don't know what is stopping your computer from accepting PD. There must be a currupt file in there somewhere that is fouling up the works. Maybe someone else with a bit more technical knowledge can sort out the error message. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn
