Burning 3D BR stops authoring at about 30%...
[Post New]
Before I go through the whole process of trying to debug this issue, is anyone else having this same problem?

I've got about 25 clips from the sony TD10, imported via PMB, as .m2ts files. PD10 imports them, trims them, plays them, and I can even view the whole movie in 3d using my nvidia card/glasses in 3d just prior to hitting "Burn in 3D". The Authoring continues and runs my 980x just fine around 77-98%, then right about 33% of the way through authoring, the cpu runs at 9%, doing don't know what, and authoring freezes. The program doesn't crash, the Time elapsed just ticks away, Time remaining eventually hits "0" and still sits there.

These clips total 4.211 GB.

I have been able to put together a 3d BR vid at about 950 MB.

Also, after further tries, I can't even get past about 2 gb burning to a side by side file.

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers, and updated PD10 too.

It's not a cpu issue, it's watercooled and cranks on other programs.

Ideas? or is this a known issue?

Thanks,
Dan

P.S. i'll update my profile to reflect 285.62 NV driver

That is a well know bug - seems to happen if you author 3D footage with 3D menus (maybe if you set the 3D depth with 2D menus). The bug is now confirmed by Cyberlink, as far as I understood Dafydd. Kind regards,
Wolfgang

Dan,

I have had exactly the same problem trying to author 3D Blu-ray disks and having the authoring stop at some percentage. In my case, I was able to solve the problem by making sure that I did not enable 3D depth on any of the button text in the 3D menu that I had created. It is OK to have a 3D still image (in my case a frame capture from the TD10 clips in the timeline), but don't enable 3D Depth in Menu Designer or the authoring will stop before completion every time.

Thanks Wolfgang and Tom,

The odd thing here that I can take just 3 of the large clips totaling 335mb, add the 3d template 9, the bouncing presents in 3D menu, and it burns just fine. These clips are the same clips used in my larger project, 60 trimmed clips from TD10.

When I have my 60 trimmed clips totaling 4.2gb, using 2d "no menu" and 2d "DVD menu" that I downloaded, again, halts exactly at 33% authoring. I'll try one more menu, but think I'm wasting my time as I can't get it to "produce" a side by side. I'm betting 50 bucks that the program doesn't like 8+ gb of 60 trimmed clips ending up at 4.3gb. I'm betting a volume/space buffer problem, but then again, I didn't write the program...

I'll start the process sending to CL just so they have more data. I have recently done a complete reinstall of win7/64/sp1 on this machine so no one can say it's a bunch of stuff on it. Win 10 Pro

Ok, I tried:

1/ making sure all vid clips had a shadow copy before trying the BR burn. I turned off or shut down virtually all other programs and running applications, including virus protection, Norton.

Started the burning process and it ended at 16%

2/ removed all shadow copies and turned off shadow copy option on preferences. Shut off all applications and turned off virus protection.

Started the burning process and it ended at the usual 33%. Wonder what is actually triggered to start at 33%?

The cpu continues to float at 9% usage but nothing is happening. I've let this run for several hours with no changes.

Burning options:
HD1920X1080p
Dolby Digital 5.1
Output 3D-BD

I've started a tech support ticket on this and referenced this thread in the ticket. Standing by for next step.

Thanks,

Different approach on the clips this time.

I took all of my TD10 clips that I wanted, over 50 (that I had to re-trim in Sony PMB) and merged all of the clips in PMB in to one .m2ts file.

I then imported that 1 file in to PD10 and was successful in burning the 3dBR, 4.93 GB / 28 minutes in length.

I was also able to take the same file and burn to a folder, which was recognized by PowerDVD11 as a bluray, in 3d. Excellent, as prefer to play all of this through PC's and projectors anyway. Acer H5360, nice!

Note during the above process, I did not shut down any applications nor turn off antivirus.

Ok, then, chopped a 4 minute clip out, added a bunch of effects and tried another burn, it stalled at 93%. Bummer, but can see that the more complicated things to compile, down it goes.

Another excellent note, the live 3d editing is great as you can see how the effects can be adjusted live. Now just need to export it...

I'll await further from CL and try some more.

Regards,
Dan

Add/Edit - created another project with just a few clips and a few transitions and effects, burned fine. Once I get up to about 20 or so clips and effects this morning, the Authoring Process stops at 97%. I tried with open g/l and NO open g/l. Ok, what process in the program is hanging around 97%?

According to task manager, the program isn't frozen/not responding, it just sits there and runs the processor at 9%. Weird.

Got my initial response back from CL, will post it here. Looks like the usual 1st contact questions...

My responses are prefaced with ">>", may be boring but the first step.

>>Hello Gaurav,

>>Please be sure to have a look at the additional information I have posted in the CL forum also:

1. Please ensure your CyberLink PowerDirector is up-to-date.

>>I have the current version 10.0.0.1012

2. Make sure there is sufficient hard disk space available. Please check system requirements page.

>>C: Drive (OS and Program) Intel SSD 213GB Free of 279GB
>>M: Drive (Media working drive) Seagate 7200 Barracuda 1.79TB free of 1.81TB
>>S: Drive Intell SSD 238GB of 238GB Free - this is used for Temp

>>OS win7/64bit/sp1 fresh install 3 weeks ago just prior to updating Intel SSD firmware.

3. Update the firmware/driver for you CD/DVD/BD writer. Please contact your CD/DVD/BD writer manufacturer for updated firmware/drivers.

>>Pioneer BD-RW BDR-205, current with firmware 1.11

4. Choose the lowest possible speed for recording a disc.

>>FYG, I have no problems burning to disk. The program halts during authoring, prior to disk burn. Also, as explained in my thread, I am able to burn over 5GB BluRay's if the "project" does not have a large amount of edited clips.

5. Use a good quality supported media to burn the disc. CD/DVD/BD writers are not compatible with all type/brand of discs. Please contact your CD/DVD writer manufacturer regarding the supported disc types for your player. Try some different and recommended brand of blank CD/DVD/BD disc.

>>Thanks, fyi, I use TDK, both BD-R and BD-RE without any problems burning.

6. Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.

>>Good idea to do and do so prior to any large projects. This has been done to no effect on the problem. Those who can carefully use CCleaner, like to use this product.

7. To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other applications while the burn process is going on. This includes anti-virus software, anti-spyware software like ZoneAlarm, pop-up blockers, and instant messaging software like MSN Messenger.

>>Yes, I shut down virtually all applications, including antivirus, which I use Norton Internet Security. I have no messaging, etc. on this machine as it was set up for video editing only.

8. Defragment your hard drive. DVD/BD video files are very large and can quickly fill your hard drive to capacity. A fragmented hard drive can cause problems during DVD/BD burning. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.

>>Yes, my defragger is set to run weekly, however, you don't defrag SSD's. Keeping them clean of files is good...

9. Try to uninstall other CD/DVD/BD burning software like Nero, EasyCD Creator, Direct CD, Daemon tool, etc. Two burning software programs installed on same computer are known to cause conflict due to common files in them.

>>I have no burning software on the computer. FYG, this is not a disk burning problem.

>>Please let me know what other items, i.e. .m2ts file, etc. you would like to me to provide.

To confirm:
System, Asus Rampage III Extreme w/i7/980X - 12GB ram - 3XGTX480.

PowerDVD11 works great on all counts.

PowerDirector 3D live editing is great, a couple little tweaks to make it work but overall excellent, and contribute that primarily to difficulty of making monitors go in/out of 3d with drivers. Actually, kinda amazed it works so well.

I would like to have the issue of number of clips in timeline looked at and from the other data provided in the thread provided.

If there are known limitations to the number of "trimmed" "clips" allowed in a timeline before things start to overload, I would like to know those.

Thanks and best regards,
Dan

Have you created and posted a DXDIAG for your machine? I could not find one. SEE PART B on link below:

Thanks Fred, yes, I did see that earlier.

I'll be more than happy to send my specs and other details to tech support, I prefer not post any specifics about my machines, etc to public sites. Actually a policy of mine going back to 1992. Heck, I don't even have a facebook page

I did run it and have no problems to report.

With best regards,
Dan

Yes..tech support will want that file...so you are here for what then???..just to visit and talk?

PS..there isn't any credit card information or secret codes in the file ..just technical information on the codecs and hardware/software resources..but you are the master and obviously have a plan.

Well..I am gazing intently at my monitor and I can not see the specifics of your platform...so without a willingness to post that file, I will have to move on, as I need technical details to assist..(I will remove myself from the response/monitor list for this thread), .....best of luck to you.

Dan,

I have on a number of occasions had PD10 stop at the 97% stage in authoring. In every case, I could solve the problem by making sure that I did not enable 3D Depth in the Menu Designer when creating the menu. Any time I enabled 3D Depth, the program ceased authoring at 97%.

Understand that 3D Depth may not be the only problem with creating 3D menus in PD10, but it is certainly one that I have identified.

I don't think the problem is with you system. It is a bug in Cyberlink's PD10 and needs to be eliminated in a future patch.

Thanks Tom, sent my info dx, etc. to tech support today, and agree, they won't find anything wrong with the system, well, pretty darn sure anyway.

Actually, I could get 3d menu's to render if I only had 3-4 clips. Then if I had about 50+ clips and 2d menu it stopped at 33%.

Anyway, keep feeding the programmers data and clues and they'll get it eventually.
