Experiment: 3D but not HD (4:3)

I don't have any HD video to play with, so I decided to experiment with a standard 4:3 video. I used the PowerTools to "convert" it to 3D, then I tried to get it to play on my TV.

The first thing I tried was an anaglyph. This came out about as well as could be expected: some scenes were really nice, some were bizarre.

The second thing I tried was to make an actual 3D-formatted video. I finally found some settings that did, in fact, make the format I needed:

WMV; Side-by-Side Full Width (L/R); and Windows Media Video 9 High Quality (640x480) [Double]

That gave me exactly what I wanted. I could verify that by playing the thing on my computer in 2D: I could see the two 4:3 images side-by-side.

Unfortunately, something on the playing end is stretching the combined image to 19:6. It isn't a flattering look for me, especially in 3D on a big screen. My TV has a bazillion settings for stretching, pulling, and squishing an image; but they seem to be disabled when the TV is working in 3D mode.

I just thought I'd pass along the results of my experiment.
