Crashes and delays in PD10
[Post New]
I installed the trial version of both PD9 and PD 10 within the last few days. I'm having problems in PD 10 with occasional crashes and delays when viewing video clips. Example: Drag video clip to timeline, add an effect at a certain point and then view the clip with the effect added. When viewing, there is usually delays in playback when the effect begins to display and then the video sort of FF's to catch back up. Once the video is produced and viewed outside of of PD it plays back normally.

The second issue is a bit more troublesome. When editing in the timeline, if I move the timeline bar to a different time frame in the clip from where it was, the is a long pause before the program responds and it sometimes crashes altogether at this point. Using the trial version of PD9 this didn't happen.

IS this normal experiences or something on my end maybe? I'm running an i7 2600 chip with 8GB RAM on WIndows 7 64 bit. Video card is a gt440 1MB GDDR5 card, I'm loving the features in PD compared to my old program yet the pauses and crashes are a big turn off. Hoping someone knows how to help.

Thanks

Try this:
1. Under the preview window there is a button to increase the preview resolution. Move it to a higher setting.
2. Post a DXDIAG file for your machine for us to look at (see PART B on the link below):

Thanks for the reply Fred. I am already at Full HD Preview in the Media viewer window.

Machine looks fine. Tell us a little about the video (source, format, mediainfo if available). Add a screencapture of the project timeline if you can, please.

Video taken with a Panasonic TM60 HD. Used the canned software to import videos from the camera to the PC. Files are .m2ts type H.264 AVC The files themselves play normally inside the media viewer. It's once effects and transitions are added do the problems occur.

I tried setting up a profile in the Nvidia control panel to be able to change the AA and AF settings when PD10 runs but no lower setting improved the issue.

Thanks again for the help provide.

This could be your problem, reduce the preview quality at least one notch if not two. This will reduce the strain on your computer. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Just had the program stop responding. a box popped up asking if I'd like to send a repot to cyberlink so I did. Don't know if that will go anywhere.

I did try all resolutions as you suggested and still see the stuttering and hesitations. It only occurs as an effect or transition is played. The reason I'm looking at PD is actually because of the HD previewing. My last program was low quality preview and it made editing and timing effects (and positioning them with key frames) very difficult at times. I really do like the content and may end up purchasing it despite the issues. Could it just be a bad download by chance? Just thinking out loud.

I am experiencing the same problem. Locks up every time I try to change aspect ratio.

Hi Lap1videodave,
Read your DXdiag your machine doesn't have enough memory! PD9 Ultra requires Gygabytes of Memory as video editing is system demanding....and you graphics card hasn't enough resources..

James1 is right about your ram but PD10 has a bug in it with the Aspect ratio section, a few of us are experiencing the crash when trying to change aspect ratio. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

What doesn't show up in that report (unless I missed it) is that I am running twin video cards. So far, everything else functions perfectly in 10. I've been using the previous version for two years to do a weekly 2-hour racing show without a hitch (43 shows since last June). The past three shows were done with 10. In 10 it freezes before the window even opens fully. Again, never had a problem with the previous version.

Hi.
Edit preferences and try changing the acceleration "shadow files" and
cuda see if that makes a difference.
