I can't capture from a RW DVD, with Powerdirector 9.

I just upgraded from director 8 to 9. With 8, I had no problems capturing anything from my RW DVD's. Now, with director 9, it won't even load the disk. It says unable to load disk. I've tried several disc too. A couple of those were just used with director 8, which worked just fine. I also tried to capture from some DVD's that I've made, & they worked fine. It just won't capture from the RW DVD's. If 9 can't capture from my RW DVD's, I have no use for it & want a refund. Please help fix this!

Thanks

what is source of the DVD-RW material?

PD9 is more picky about "preceived" copyright infringement. A number of people (including myself) have had some material "non-processed" due to those "protections". In my case it was a setting in my camcorder, which i reset and had no further problem.

Noise in VHS tapes can also cause false positive (PD9 thinks it is old macrovision protection).

Capture is not the right setting, you should EXPLORE the DVD, and copy the contents to your hard drive.
Then import those folders to PD. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Copyright is not the issue for me, but these are movies & shows from TV & old football games on VCR tapes. I can capture from DVD's I've made, with PD, but it's not working with the recorded DVD's, from my DVD recorder. It makes no sense. I shouldn't have to explore them. I've been using capture for 2yrs, with PD8. I even used it last Thursday, before I upgraded, to PD9. As for explorer, when I go in there, I don't seen any files anyway. There has to be something that I can do to fix this. I even changed the record format on my DVD recorder, but it still doesn't load the disc.

Are you finalizing the disks, with my DVD recorder (JVC), I have to finalize the disc before it will play on any other dvd.

There is a difference in RW format, but i believe both once-only and RW have to be finalized (under the strict standard) RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB GDDR6

Yes, it finalizes. That's what's so annoying. I'm not doing anything different. If I put in a recorded disc, it won't load it so it can be captured. It'll get to 91% loaded, & you can even see the # of titles that are on the disc. Then it stops & says unable to load disc. The only thing I'm doing different is using PD9 & not PD8.

I uninstalled PD9 & tried to go back to PD8. The problem is that I can't find my activation key. I looked under my registered products, but it's not there. In fact, PD9 is not even there, & I just registered it. Where can I get an activation key or can I even use another one?

This is just absurd! I feel so ripped off. I'm disabled & on a fixed income, so I can't be wasting money like this.

LLee: I would suggest that you should follow the advice that Barry has given you. The files are already "captured" on a DVD, so all you should need to do is import them into PD9, which is a different beast from PD8.

Give Barry's suggestion a try and let us know how you make out. He is one of the many "real" experts on this forum and I have learned a lot from reading his posts and those of the other experts. Have a great day.
