Cutting a project in two, keeping chapters in place

I need to cut a long project into two projects.

After making the split, it's easy enough to delete the second half of the original project, making a new project of just the first half.

But when I open the large project again and delete the first half, the chapters aren't removed with the clips.

Isn't there a way to accomplish this and have the correct chapters stay associated with the large project's second half, or do I just have to start all over with the second half's chapters?
