SmartSound PD Build 3305. A Mess

I now find with the most recent build of PD9 ( 3305 ) that 90% of free music in Smartsound will not drag and drop into the timeline.
Ironically prior to build 3305 the 'Introspective' style in Smartsound would drag and drop and play in the timeline but would not burn to disc. Now that works fine. ( this was the subject of a previous thread )
Now we have another mess.
Cyberlink giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other.
I have SmartSound Version 5.1.8.0

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
VM Windows Professional XP
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM DDR3
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Chip type: ATI display adapter 0x68B8
Motherboard ASUS P7P55D-E
1TG Hardrive

Hi Rocket-Scientist,

1. Have you tried all the sound clips as some do drag and drop.

2. www.smartsound.com>support>software updates>quicktracks updates> (for Cyberlink Powerdirector.)

Hi Rocket Scientist -

The link to download 5.1.8.0 is https://www.smartsound.com/support/updates.html?product=cyberlink (which, of course, you already knew because Des put it right there!)

In fact, that build corrected some earlier issues I was having.

Later - I'll run some SS tests with the newest PD patch & see what shows up. Geez - I hope it's not like Des said!

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

The SmartSound tracks that would not drag and drop for me were

Bach Guitar
Blues to Go
Boulevard Funk
Cold Metal
Hot & Spicy
Kickin Back
New Vistas
No Borders
Rodeo Roundup
Synergy
Take Me there
Tribal Theory

There may be others.

Cheers
Des

P.S. I have just noticed that it is the Styles with only one track that wont drag and drop.

Styles that contain multiple tracks will drag to the timeline. Curious!!!!

Hi Des,
Please can you carry out a re-install? I had a problem with installing the SS part of the patch and you may have experienced something similar.

If you continue to have problems then you'll need to uninstall PD and SmartSound (Control Panel route is what I'd do). Looks to me PD/SS install got corrupted.

Des -

The number of variations of each track is dependent on the the duration you have set.

e.g. In SS, go to Bach Guitar:
1. Set the duration at 00:01:00:00 (press Enter) - 14 variations
2. Set the duration at 00:00:30:00 (press Enter) - 8 variations
3. Set the duration at 00:00:20:00 (press Enter) - 4 variations
4. Set the duration at 00:00:15:00 (press Enter) - 8 variations (not the same 8 as in 2. above)
5. Set the duration at 00:00:10:00 (press Enter) - 4 variations

Maybe that's a factor in the tracks' inability to be dragged & dropped. Have you tried - right click > Add to Music track?

Cheers - Tony

Hi Dafydd,
Hi Tony,

I think Dafydd may be right.Will try a Re-install.
Tony. I am not getting the variations of track by changing the durations as you suggest. Also right clicking and selecting add to music track does not work.

Setting the duration to get variations is a new one on me.I can find no reference to this function?

Hi Des -

Agreed - an uninstall/re-install may resolve the issue.

Over here (on the other side of the Tasman), each of the tracks you mentioned was able o be inserted into the timeline by (a) dragging & dropping & (b) adding to music track... at durations of 00:02:17:00 & 00:00:30:00

Not only, but also...

Here's a little screen capture showing how the numbers of variations change with duration resetting. Phil? Are you watching? The soundtrack is Pavane - Vow (from Core Foundations). It produced properly!

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

From across the Tasman where the Irish play great Rugby I have re-installed the 3305 patch twice to no avail, I have also downloaded the patch again incase the original was corrupted . Again this did not fix the problem.
Later today I am going to start from scratch. I.E. Uninstall PD9 and then install PD9 ( Build 2316 ) plus patch 3305 .
I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Don't forget to activate before applying the updates, although perhaps with the latest update that doesn't matter any more.

Bach Guitar was the single SS track I tried to use in a project. It would drag into the project, but when playing the project, this file wouldn't play. When I stopped playback, set the cursor to before the music clip, then it would play. Didn't give me confidence that the thing would actually sound out in the final burn, so I just yanked it out and replaced it with another file found on the internet.

As has been pointed out, this SS feature hasn't been programmed correctly by Cyberlink. How can they keep it in the program, advertise that it's a big feature, but not fix their programming with the SS company? It's crazy.

You're right. The PD interface with SmartSound needs fixing. CL knows about the issue.

Oddly, for me, right now, on Win 7 (64-bit), with the 3305 patch installed, can't make SS misbehave at all in PD. Sure - it slows don the works, but it's doing everything it should so far.

Some people get crabby, but I take out my frustration by pulling out Revo Uninstaller & totally removing miscreant software. This takes out the registry footprint too (which Windows Control Panel does NOT).

Not saying it's sure fire, because I've had a bit of grief from SS/PD before, but:

The steps in italics aren't completely necessary. You could leave them out.
1. Ditch QuickTracks (use Revo with a moderate registry scan)
2. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SmartSound Software & make sure there's nothing in the QuickTracks subfolders
3. Go to C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc - move the whole folder somewhere else temporarily (in case you need it later)
4. Restart
5. Re-install QuickTracks 5.1.8.exe and SmartSoundCommonData.exe
6. Open PD & test the SS Module.
7. Go to C:\ProgramData\ and check the SmartSound Software Inc folder.
It should look like this

8. If it doesn't, synchronise it with the original folder.

I hope you get some joy out of SS soon.

Cheers - Tony

I rarely use SmartSound and didn't realize that I have the same issue. I downloaded the latest version and uninstalled SmartSound from the Windows Control Panel. Then I installed the release that I just downloaded. No joy. Still does just what you describe. I'm not concerned enough to do a complete reinstall of PD. __________________________________

All Hail Caesar,

I followed Dafydds advice and started from scratch. I.E. uninstalled PowerDirector9 Ultra ( build 3305 ) and
installed the original version of PD9 Ultra ( Build 2702)and then added Patch 3305.
Everything is now fine in the land of the long white cloud regarding SmartSound.
Except for the Audio Mixing Room.As soon as I installed Patch 3305 the Video Audio Slider once again disappeared after I introduce a snapshot to the timeline.

I've only seen this when there is no audio in any track at that point. __________________________________

Glad it's working for you, Des (up to a point).

Jaime - the disappearing volume slider behaviour was discussed here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/19072.page
