I have successfully used jpeg images in PiP and I think I recall reading about video clips being used but I can't see my way through that.

I would be grateful for any advice.

You can put video clips in the other tracks just like you can the images.

Just drag them from the library down to your desired track.

PD9 has up to 100 tracks. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Hi Carl,

Have gone back in and still in a quandry. And I'm in one of those situations where I hear what is said about what to do, BUT don't actually understand the way to do it.

When you say the 'LIBRARY' I assume you mean the PIP Library - when I hit the icon 'IMPORT IMAGES' in the PIP media centre, it opens up the available files but it appears to want to only accept DZW Files.

You also say that the video file can be dragged into one of the 'TRACKS' - Problem - when I see the word 'TRACK' I think of AUDIO and I can't see how relevant that is.

My plan for the PIP was to insert a Video clip, but use the audio from the main Video images. Just to explain, the main video shot of a school play was shot on Day 2 and misses a key CU shot on Day 1,. so I planned to use the Day 1 shot as the PIP and sync it to the audio on DAY 2.

Is there a 'HOW TO' procedure you can guide me through ?? I would be very grateful - you might appreciate that I have spent much of the last 7 or 8 weeks ensuring that I get the best out of all the work the teachers and children have put into this school play.

Having purchased a BD Writer I am over the moon with the discs this produces with PD9, and a great deal of the time has been spent attempting to improve the quality of the 2 DVDs (combing artefacts) I am determined (in fact have to) to provide as an alternative to BluRay.

It also looks as though my trawl through Nero and AVS4You might improve on the PD9 and Power2Go Burns.

Carl - I must say that I am impressed with how many threads you are involved in - how on earth do you manage to get to do any editing - perhaps I could provide my grandchildren on loan to you for a couple of weeks - THAT WOULD REALLY BE AN EYE-OPENER !

Hi Ron -

When you insert the clip(s) from Day 1, you just sync them with the Day 1 shots... then mute the audio (or remove it completely).

It would look a bit like this...

Cheers - Tony (on the brink of adding to his grandchild "collection")

A 'TRACK' is both the video and audio, video can be separate from the audio. Track is what PowerDirector calls the area you place the Video and Audio into for edit on the timeline.

Tony did a very good demonstration of that.

The 'library' is the area where you import your media to, best know as "Media Library". It is the area you drag your media from to the timeline track for editing.

I have wide interests. I am retired and have a lot of time to answer the many questions that I think I know the answer to.

I had enough time this week to produce a BluRay Disk of the Movie "Avatar" which I recorded from Dish Network.
Was not a big edit, it was a movie channel, so no commericals.

What I wonder is how does Tony (ynotfish) get the pictures made and posted so fast.
Tony does the best job of posting images of how to.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for pursuing this for me.

Again I see WHAT you say but can't see HOW.

I've edited my short Day 2 segment (as the PIP) and of course it's a PDS file, when I try to add it to the Day 2 video on the Timeline it asks if I want to add it but when I say YES it removes the Main Video and adds Day 1 to the Timeline, and vice versa.

I can's seem to (ever) find a way of adding PDS files to the library because I have tried to join two separate PDS files together, without success. AND Tony I don't know what you mean by SYNCING the two video tracks once they are both in the Timeline.

Just as an experiment I did add a still image onto Track 2 and when I played that back on Movie it played back the still but not the Day 2 Video. Although I have Particle effects and Titles that dovetail into the main video perfectly

You will appreciate that I'm now lost, because from your screen Tony I don't see how the Day 1 track can become a PIP -
shouldn't I be importing whatever I'm using as the PIP image into the PIP library ?????????????

H E L P !

Hi Ron,
It is with some trepidation I enter this thread to add some additional input.

1. pds = PowerDirector's project file. It is a store of addresses to the internal locations of the media files you have used to create a project. You DO NOT place this file anywhere in PowerDirector. You double click on the named .pds to bring in/start your project in PowerDirector

2. ALL TRACKs ARE PIP TRACKS in PD9. ALL files, video and photo have to be resized if you need them to be a different size OR if you have placed one above another the lower numbered track media will be hidden.

3. Tracks in PD9 are in numerical order - Tracks with the higher number are the dominant track - images and video in the higher numbered tracks will obscure the lower track unless reshaped/resizedd in Preview or with PiPDesigner.

4. Syncing - is what editors have to do to match the audio, if using video of the same scene but from two different cameras (for example)

5. Using Click'n'Drag video and Photos can be placed into the tracks below the Library.

6. There is a six, but I've forgotten what it was...

Edit: Just tweakingx2

To add to what Dafydd Bevan - SoftDeko has said about pds files.

Power Director project file (pds) also stores all the editing information of everything you do in the edit space.
It is a record of instructions for every cut, transition, modification you do in the edit space.

A PDS file is recorded in Powerdirector whether you give it a name or not. You should name your project files so that you know what you were working on at the time.

If you do not name your project file, Powerdirector names it "untitled" and adds date and time information. Untitled is stored in the default area defined in Preferences > Project Tab. Default is every 10 minutes PD writes a backup project file.

Now you can add a pds file in the Create Disk Module, it is allowed and sometimes preferred to use a PDS to add more Titles to the disk.

EDIT:
The name PDS gave while I did nothing to the samples is "New Untitled Project_unsave.pds". It saved that while I had PD open and was writing this post.

Hi Grandad Ron,

Perhaps Cyberlink's "Introduction To Creative Movie Making" tutorial book, might be worth a browse.
In it's 267 pages, it goes over all the basics of using PD9.

A free PDF download version, is available here...

Hi Gang,

I will try all you said and report later, BUT to answer Cranston's point - I did download the The User Guide way back when I downloaded PD9 but, of course, it was all just words then. I have that copy out now and I'll try again.

However, I don't think I've come across The Intro to Creative Movie Making so I'll download the pdf - I have hundreds of pages of recycled paper from my son's business (one side clear) so it will come in useful.

Thanks again.
