Change File Path and File Name

I would like to know the easiest way of changing a clip (already in the timeline) from one file to another (new path and / or file name).

Example, I have 'DOG.PNG' in the timeline and I want to replace it with 'CAT.PNG'.

I can right click the image and select 'Change Alias', however it won't let me change the actual file name (much less the path). I just want to simply browse to the new file and 'swap it out'.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi,
Just import the image into director. Then drag that image over the Image on the timeline...you will get an option to 'insert or Overrite" .

Hi,

Although he may have done so, I am not sure James 1 addressed your question. If you simply want to generate a new file of the same matter, go to "file" and select "save as". If you want to replace an image of a dog for an image of a cat in the timeline, James 1 nailed it.

Thanks Jim. It 'kinda' works. If I select 'Overwrite', PowerDirector will 'splice' it into the the timeline.

In other words DOG.PNG comes in at a default of around 5 seconds, so if the CAT.PNG is 10 seconds, and I drop it say in the middle of CAT.PNG, PowerDircetor will split CAT.PNG into two pieces and put DOG.PNG in the middle (without shifting anything over).

At least it gets me close enough eh?

Hi,
Yes I didn't know whether that was the norm or just the way I was doing it, I think you have to get it exact over image ...anyway at least you have a partial solution...LOL

Place the new image directly under the one you want to overwrite. Use the blue lubber line to split the new image by aligning the line with old image and choosing the "split" command. This will precisely size the new image and you can move it into track with the old image and choose "overwrite".
