Rendering mp4 produces wash-out and fraying

Hi,

I learnt that YouTube uses the mp4 container, which is why my m2ts videos were showing a video/audio lag after their processing. So I decided to switch to mp4. This worked well for 3 videos, until PD9 suddenly delivers degrading output files.

The beginning will be fine, but even with my 3 minute video it suddenly outputs frayed edges, then entire blocks and towards the end stops rendering video completely, while the audio continues.

I switched off acceleration, then went from Best to Standard resolution with varying, but never perfect results. Consecutive rendering attempts with identical settings will result in varying outputs.

Has anybody had this? Any pointers what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

PS: PD9 2316, W7/64, i7, 12GB

My 1st idea is to get the latest build of PD9.
The last patch I find to be excellent.
Also, do you have the latest video drivers? Unless you go to your video card site, you'll not get accurate driver info. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and suggestions.

There is a patch? Thanks. I'm downloading it now. Maybe CyberLink should tell me about the availability of patches when rendering, rather than informing me of new or other products.

My video drivers are up-to-date as I have automatic updates for nvidia active. But as far as I understand that is for the display, not for the rendering of videos. Also, the rendering results in differing outputs with the same video drivers.

So let me see if the patch rectifies my problem. /fingerscrossed/

Well, I just figure it's a good place to start, but different results is an oddity that will be looked at as our more technically adept members come aboard.
Could you also provide a DXdiag for us and ATTACH it as a file? See below...Part B

Update:

After installing the program update and the video driver I tried rendering a new video - with the same results. It starts ok, then delivers frame errors, then edge fraying and eventually just stops rendering the mp4 file with the audio continuing. Other containers work fine, so why not mp4?????

I tried acceleration on and off with similar results. CPU utilisation is not unusually high with some cores hovering at 80 while others are at 100%. Memory utilisation is around 25%.

Yet when I restart the PC and render without anything else running, the result a usable video. But why only mp4?

Hi Andy, my computer is only a dual core with 4gigram and it does exactly the same thing as yours by the sounds of it(starts fine and then degrades). Ive got a fresh updated Quicktime, new V/card drivers and updated new version of powerDirector 9.0.
In MP4 it looks washed out or like looking through a dirty pixalated window. Tried MP2 and nice video.
Its good to know someone with an i7 computer is also having the same problem because it cuts out the computers capabilities...
Hopefully someone can shed some light for us...

Hi AndySA,
Please provide:
Annotated screenshots please are essential to understand the issue you have. Images of the Edit Workspace and full screen picture of the insitu Preview AND of the finished video displayed on (please name the player used and tested in) screen. Please show us the issue in a snapshot.

A sample of the video is essential for editors to double check your findings, please attach at least a 5 to 10 second sample. Note: the video file will be replicated to extend the amount to be rendered.

Please provide the EXACT choices to which you refer to in MP4 and what you're rendering to.

Please note. This thread is for AndySA's issue and not for others to place samples etc. If you have a SIMILAR problem with your system you should post as a NEW TOPIC and link back to this thread only. Thanks. see guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/13638.page

Earthling4469apq, good input, please post your info on a New Topic: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/jforum.page?module=posts&action=insert&forum_id=67

Editors will then be able to test and see if they can replicate your issue.
