Excessive time to produce or burn DVD

It is taking 5+ hours to produce a 1hr 40 min mpeg-2 or burn standard DVD. What is going on?? I have PD 9 loaded on a Win 7 64bit computer duo core quad with 6 GB memory. Edit format is AVI. Nothing special other than music track added. These are 8mm movies recorded to minDV digital camcorder and captured with firewire using PD 9. I am pretty new to this but 5 hours seems like too long for processing.

You could try producing it first then adding it back in to make the DVD. But also the authorising process of a DVD does take a while. You can check your burn speed and mabye increase it.
