PD9 and windows 7 64 bit freeze/crash

I just started to use PD9 version 2930
I am running Windows 7 Home premium on a Dell XPS 8300
Intel i7-2600 CPU at 3.4Ghz
RAM is 12 Gbytes
Video card is ATI HD 5700 1Gbyte
Video drivers ARE up to date and so is quicktime. I have loaded some HD video captured from an Aiptek cam corder in a .MOV file format. I can't even cut the files into clips without the system locking up. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!

I have searched the forum and found no answer. Does this program simply not function? Does anyone have an idea where to start? Is there software available that can edit video?

To say the least I am really disappointed!!!

Have you got in preferences, "create shadow file' option checked or unchecked, try unchecking that see if that helps.
I have a similar machine except for graphic card I have geforce 560ti 1Mb memory.

I tried both ways
PD9 fires up and runs, but as soon as I start to do anything it locks up

Have you tried a codec pack?
Many of us have FFdShow installed.
Also, could you please supply a dxdiag for us? The dxdiag is a teeny little function on your computer that will tell us exactly what it's innards are.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page READ PART B.

Attach your dxdiag as a file here.
Also do you have a short 5-10 second unedited original clip from the camera you could attach here?

I do not have a codec pack installed...

I'll have to generate a small file from the camera

Nothing jumps out at me except you could use an ATI driver update, though it's not too old.
Waiting for that clip. You can attach it here, just not too long, OK? HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I downloaded your video and had no problem producing it to H.264 and .mov progressive. I do have FFDshow codec installed on my computer.

With .mov though you have to choose LPCV audio compression to get the audio to work. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Works fine for me too, split it and rotated a section and inserted 2 transitions, produced to .mov full Hd with no problems.

Cheers

Still crashing.... I can run for a few minutes and then it locks up tight. Do you really think I need the Codec Pack?

Consider doing.
1: Patch the program with the latest patch found at -
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_C...
2: Check the firmware on your Video Card for updates from your computer manufacturer - don't trust 3rd party web sites.
3: If you use an IDE Hard drive - Enable DMA
4: Check for firmware updates for the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller from your computer manufacturer - don't trust 3rd party web sites
5: Update Windows 7 Codec Pack at -
http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10965840.html
6: Download K-Lite Codec Pack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K- Lite_Codec_Pack). You will find links there.
7: When you install K-Lite Codec Pack it was not necessary for me to option any of the config's. I accepted the default settings but I did make sure to associate it for most Video file types.
8: ALWAYS grab 64bit files if your O/S and PC can handle it.
9: Anytime you change a file/program setting or do an application install, ALWAYS protect the computer by creating a new System Restore Point.
Have fun.
