Window closes PD9

PD9 Build 2702
When I select the last clip, on the time line, Window closes with "Power Director has stopped working" and PD9 closes.
Cannot continue editing when I click on the last clip since the above appears and PD9 closes.
This closing has happened before and for the first time in this particular project but, I have been able to re-open PD9 to remove the clip and effects and continued editing for quite a bit.

It always happens when I have applied some effect, PIP, etc. Not the clip alone.

I am working in HD my camera records in AVCHD. Have always and only worked other projects at this high level without this problem.

Hi there -

The first thing I'd do is turn off Shadow Files in Preferences. They're not only unnecessary with your system (a step up from mine), but they're known to cause problems.

That might not solve your issue, but it's still worth doing.

Cheers - Tony

Thanks Tony.
Have turned off Shadow Files but, as you suspected, not a fix.

Find the location of the backup project files and open an earlier project file.

PD does an automatic project file backup every 10 minutes. If the defaults have not been changed.

Choose one before you added the bad clip.

I am embarrassed to say that I can't find the "location of Project Files".
I know that my Auto Save Project is set to every 5 min. and that the location is by default is set to:
Users\Raul\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\9.0\AutoSave\
But when I search in Windows Explorer nothing comes up, even when I search *.pds.

Searching for things in my PC has always been confusing to me.

rcalzadilla;

Have you actually gone to the folder (by clicking)
Users\Raul\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\9.0\AutoSave\
directly, and not via search?

Edit;

In case you haven't set your preferances to "show all folders" / all folders visible,
I attach 2 images how to do that, just in case.
(sorry for the Norwegian, but I wrote English in)

Great! Now have found the .pds folders.
Had to choose a saved file six clips back from the end of the timeline. So there was more than one back clip.

How can I avoid these bad clips? Are they in the original video or did this happen when editing the clip?

Would better hardware help in avoiding these things?

Thanks for all your assistance.

There is no way to know for sure. Experience with the videos you use, will be better at knowing if you have a shot at editing the source material.

Original Video. PD does not change the original Files. PD just uses a reference to the Video.

If you know in advance, certain source material will have problems, you can sometime convert the original to a different format before you bring into PD. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

As Carl is indicating, there could be issues with the clips you're importing. You've also mentioned that it only occurs when you add an effect or PiP. It could be a combination of those two factors.

I doubt whether it's a hardware issue. Your PC is more than adequate for video editing.
