"the simplest most often give the best result". (Sounds a bit better in Norwegian)
Videos are made for all sorts of reasons and with all sorts of content.
Sometimes we go for the funny, the wedding, the documentry, the nature etc.
We experiment, and most likely we learn by doing so.
Often I fall in to ditches, using too many "effects" available in the program,
tempted to perhaps make a "wow"- impression. The next day I may come to my senses
and throw it away.
The "prince of pip's" using Power Director (Cranston), has in some way "educated" me
during the past year with his "mantra"; tell a story! A video should tell (some sort of) a story!
I have found it, not only right, but a good rule of thumb.
Do we have stories to tell? Yes, - they are everywhere around us.
To catch someone's eye, or leave an impact on someone's feelings, "simple" things can
work amazingly well. Video is "living pictures", but it's also a painting, a book or
a piece of music. The multimedium. Video offers a unike possibility for expressions.
Wandering YT, Vimeo or other locations and forums, I often see on display the almost
overloaded varaity of effects; fires and smoke, explosions and crashes, bullets flying in slow
motion etc. accompanied with ditto sound - just to mention some things.
I am going to post a link here now, ( I hope it's ok)
to a video that certainly tells a story. And whats more: an important story, in my view.
No overload of effects, a few transitions, matching music.
Did the story come first? The music- and then the story?
How do ideas get conceived?
Videos like this makes me think,-
and makes me want to get better at editing.
