Advice on importing events from iMovie

Hello, I just began using PowerDirector, and would like to import my family's existing video which has been managed so far using iMovie 8. Unfortunately I can't go back to the DV tapes, even with careful storage many of them have degraded to uselessness.

The event/video files have a .dv extension, I tried importing them into powerdirector but the format was not recognized. Any advice on how to do this without losing quality? I read about exporting to quicktime, then importing but I am not sure what the effect on the quality is.

Thanks!

Don't use imovie but there should be an export option to export to other formats? You might have to experiment as to which settings suit your purpose best.

Does this help?

It's been years since I used iMovie, but I know .dv files play in QuickTime Player.

Not sure if you have QuickTime Pro (or whether that's relevant), but I just used it to export one of the sample video files (from Bif). I used the same format & profile for output. Visually, there is no obvious difference (of course, I wasn't converting a .dv file). Statistically... well MediaInfo reports are attached.

If it were me, that would be the approach I'd take.

Cheers - Tony

Thank you for the advice, I am experimenting with exporting to quicktime using H.264 as it seems to produce the best quality out of the options. Overall this has been remarkably difficult and makes me glad we're moving away from imovie.
