Hi Guyoren: There is an option to link all tracks under Tool, Edit. Check it.

I am not sure why your transition is freezing, unless your computer is underpowered or there is a software conflict or some other reason.

If you would attach a dxdiag of your system to a post, the pros here will try to help you get up and running. They aren't being nosey - they just need to examine your system specs to see if they can identify a possible issue.

As far as everything moving when you don't want it to, unlink the tracks, add a new track.
When you want to remove a clip, or change it's duration, drag the clip into the EMPTY NEW TRACK, alter the clip, and replace it where you want it. Keep the EMPTY NEW TRACK for all procedures, it is the single most annoying feature of PD9...so far. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I BINGO what Barry said. That extra track comes in useful when doing clip alterations.

I may suggest putting a short stinger in there someplace lined up with a particular video action. Use the stinger to test if the video has moved in relationship to your sound.

For instance at the end of my video I have a salamander whacking his tail in the water and I have a small stinger (the sound of a loud water drop).

If they are lined up correctly when I play that segment, I know things did not shift on me without me knowing.

Oh, one more thing, it might be slightly less annoying if the "link-unlink" button was part of the EDIT interface, rather than have to dig for it every time. Is it REALLY that difficult to enable that? HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

You've been around PD long enough to know about the parallel universe(s) that PD covers. I'm sure somewhere, sometime someone will have that option already enabled. (unfortunately they won't be able to use SmartSound tracks - still, can't have everything, can we?)

As far as your cross transition freezing for a second. I am assuming it is when when you preview (play) your project. What is your preview resolution set at? When you are watching your project, you are rendering it to watch it and any weakness areas in your computer will show up there also. Most of us will set the preview resolution up and down a lot depending on what we are doing.

You may need to lower your setting unless you want to watch your preview stumble along all day. It will look crappy on low but will preview a lot smoother. Your rendered or burned disk will be fine unless you have those setting set wrong also.

Once again I agree with the Callinectes sapidus.

I just reduced the resolution of my preview and it makes a lot of difference.

The thing with the transition is not a preview issue. It stays the same afte rendering.
What happens is when I define cross transition ( in order to keep pre edited clips in place) the second clip on that transition will use a freezed picture untill the point when it enters the area of the second clip. Only then the second clip wil start playing.

Can anyone try this ? and see what he gets?

Have we seen the last patch for 9? I don't know.

The user interface of PD9 is set and unlikely to change to accommodate the inclusion of 3 buttons which would change everything (all help files, all tutorial videos etc etc). Therefore the suggestion would be useful for PD10 - yes?

I totally agree with Dafydd here.
Though I wish it wasn’t so, and I don’t mean the part about agreeing with Dafydd , I mean I was in fact not holding out much hope for any extra buttons or design changes, until PD10.
Update patches are, as I understand them, only intended to provide corrective repairs to performance issues, and errors, and glitches of already established features that don’t perform as they should, or as advertised.

But... "if" CL could add those extra buttons via an update patch, then they sure would have a bunch of happy members here. And as far as these button’s omission from the Help Files. We happy members would also be more than happy to answer any and all...
"Hey, I just updated my PD9 to the latest patch. What’s the deal with those 3 new buttons?" questions, that may arise as a result.
