Hi: Your computer should be able to exploit PD9 Ultra x64. A little more RAM would help if you are doing serious HD editing. If you have Crossfire (note two video cards), disable it. PD9 won't work with it ... yet.

And, it's not "our" software - we're just users. This forum is sponsored by Cyberlink, but they do not monitor these forums. You have access here to a lot of pros who will give you all of the help they can on a completely voluntary basis.

Hope that you decide to join "our world" of PowerDirecting. Have a great weekend.

Regards,
-Phil

thanks for your replay.
what would you consider "ideal" amount of ram for seroius HD editing?
I don't have "Crossfire" but I think "SLI" is its equivalent; so I assume that should be turned off?

I wouldn't worry about turning off SLI you may need it for something else on your computer. I have SLI enabled with my GTX460's and it just shows when rendering that only one of the cards is being used.

The Nvidia drivers though, 266.58 (the latest release) causes artefacts when using hardware acceleration in the produce window. 260.99 the previous release and the newest beta drivers don't. I have the latest beta drivers installed and they work a treat.

Regarding ram I have 6 gig in my machine and I rarely go over 4gig usage, so I would say 6 gig would do you fine. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Hi,
When you start using PD9Ultra please make the below changes. Your system will operate better without them.

Shadow files operation - you do NOT need this option. Look in preferences and uncheck the options:
Preferences > General > Enable HD video processing (uncheck the option asap)
Also:
Preferences > Confirmation > Always prompt me when I import HD video into the library.

Hi. On a 64-bit platform, 6 GB RAM is the "minimum" suggested for HD editing, which equates to about 3 GB on a 32-bit system. If you are going to be doing some heavy duty HD editing, I would upgrade to 8 GB of RAM just to ensure that PD9 Ultra x64 has lots of RAM available.

Just my suggestion. Have a great day.

-Phil

I plan to edit mostly in HD, my motherboard has another 3 RAM slots free. The total RAM slots are 6.
Thinking another 6MB for a total of 12, or would that be a waste?
At present I can afford little extra expense.

I think that 8 GB would be sufficient for PD9, but if you are going to be keeping the computer for some time, then who knows what the minimums will be for future releases of PD and other video/photo editing software? You can always add more RAM in the future if it is needed or add it now - your call.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.

I was thinking of getting another 6GB (3x2GB) but Mushkin no longer makes this model.
Would I have to get 12GB and not use my present sticks?

FYI - I've tested PD9 with extensive AVCHD footage with lots of effects and the most PD9 demanded of the system was 4.5 Gb. Win 10, i7

Have you had any problem installing driver 270.61 that just came out?
I can't install it because"not compatible with my version of Windows" and had to restore to previous point. EVGA (132-BL-E758-TR) X58 ATX

rcalzadilla, that is strange that it says it is incompatible with Win 7 professional, I have win7 home premium 64 bit and the driver installed fine. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

I think I downloaded the driver for XP rather than Win7 x64 and installed it.
