AVCHD Capture from Panasonic HDC-SD600P not working
[Post New]
Get an error message about not finding any valid format on the device.
I CAN download the video through the supplied Panny software and THEN import them all, BUT there seems to be an issue with directly capturing.
I have seen someone else commenting on the same issue(albeit a little different) on a Canon device.
Regards
Ed

Hi edsyl -

This post applies to your question, even though it's about a different camera. http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/posts/list/3382.page#11870 I believe your camera only uses an SD card for storage (no internal flash).

"Capture" is for other devices. All you need to do is transfer the clips to your PC (just as the Panasonic software does), then import them into PD.

Cheers - Tony

Edit: Sorry Ed - didn't realise you'd posted in the other thread. Have you tried transferring the clips from your SD card, then importing? In the other thread, even THAT didn't seem to be working

Just a follow up to Tony's post.

I use a portable "card reader" to extract data from the SD card which plugs into a USB port - simple to use. If your PC doesn't have an inbuilt device - get a portable multi-type one.

Capture option is not used in your case.

Thanks
Dafydd

Can you explain to me the technical reason behind this anomaly?
The included Panny software can do it, why not "Power" Director?
Seems a bit odd to me.
Thanks

Hi Ed -

My understanding is that all the "Panny" software (HD Writer?) does is transfer the clips from your camera into its library... just like the Pixela software that came with my Canon. I don't use it, by the way.

If HD Writer can "see" your clips and transfer them, you can too.

Ed, I think I must be missing something here. Have you tried transferring the clips to your PC, then importing them? or importing clips to PD from HD Writer's library?

Cheers - Tony

Ed,

I use files from a Panasonic HD camera.

I can use either the raw camera files or the ones that HDWriter creates when used to copy from the camera. The raw camera files have the extension .mts and the HDWriter files have .m2ts.

When I first started using the files I just copied the raw files to my hard drive. I imported and edited from there. Recently I added the HDWriter software to see how it worked. I still mostly just copy the raw files over because I find it faster.

Ed -

Maybe the "confusion" is in the language.

When you open HDWriter to copy files from your camera, the clips are "physically" copied into its library.

When you plug in your camera or insert the SD card to transfer files, the clips are "physically" copied onto your hard drive.

When you import media files into PD, nothing is "physically" copied or imported. All PD does is remember the file path to the media.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree

Cheers - Tony
