Won't import AVIs

Hello,

I'm running the trial version of PowerDirector 9.0.0.2504. I want to convert my avi files and burn to dvd format, however I keep getting the error message "

"An error occurred while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format".

I have tried to see what avi format they are in, but I don't see the info anywhere. I have also had this message appear on some of my mp4 files. FLV's however appear to be imported fine, except for a handful of files.

I'm running Vista 64Bit, 8GB Ram.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Lisa,
PowerDirector 9 is a 64bit program.

The avi's are likely to be encoded with a codec that cant be read by PD as are the mp4's.

Avi's which have been encoded by an 32bit codec (or proprietary codec) do have problems and to date there isn't a solution.

If you can, please install FFDShow a free codec pack (Google it) and if necessary update QuickTime. these may assist you in allowing the .mp4's into PD9.

Here is a workaround which may help you.

Load the AVI into MS Movie Maker and produce a video output. Then use that file in PD.

I found that when using some screen capture programs, especially when the area captured was not simple 800x600 then PD would not open it but MSMM did. As Dafydd said, if the properties or codec is not acceptable PD will fail to open but MSMM seems to not do such a severe check. If you can't solve the problem - Change the problem
