Hello All,

Here is my scenario:

I've a video for about 4 hours and it does not fit in DL DVD as well. Is there anyway in PD8 Ultra to split the video into two 4.7GB DVD while burning?

Also, please let me know that if I produce the video rather creating a DVD, can I still add the menu through Mediashow and burn the DVD's into two.

I'd appreciate your prompt response.

Thanks

No, not with PD8.

Yes, but that's not PD related and post will be locked if discussed. A google search may help you.

Your only real option with PD8 would be to create a copy of your pds file, say part1.pds and part2.pds. In part1.pds split at ~2hr mark. Create a disc of that. Open part2.pds in PD and cut the first ~2hr off. Create a disc of that. You now have two discs for your 4 hour video.

For reference
DVD HQ > ~1hr on DVD single layer
DVD HQ > ~2hr on DVD dual layer

1. You could use the "smartfit function" when producing. This would reduce the quality, but it would fit on a DL DVD.

2. You could produce your 4 hours movie into a mpeg-2 or avi file
Take that file and import it into a new timeline.
trim the last half (2 hours) off and burn to dvd folder file or a DVD
put your file again into a new timeline. This time
trim the 1st half (2 hours) off and burn to a second dvd foldef file or a DVD

You now have two dvd folder or 2 dl-dvd (2 hours each)

Hello ro22tol,

I tried doing with 'Smart fit' option but as you mentioned the quality is not at all great. I haven't tried option yet, but I'm still confuse can you please elaborate your explanation?

Within your option will I be able to create menu for both the dvd's? I've a question for you -- can I create menu later on pd8 on a produced video?

You reply is highly appreciated.

Thanks Thanks

Hi

There are 8.5GB DVD's available - however judging by the size of your project it probably won't fit either.

As suggested before, split your project into two 2 hour projects that might just fit onto a 4.7GB disc.

To do this open your project and do a 'file save as' and save the file as 'part 1'. Then do another 'save as' and save as part 2.

Then go back into the Part 1 project and delete half of the project from the master video track (storyboard).

Then either 'Produce' this an an MPEG2 DVD HQ file for archival or use on a computer or media player OR
go straight to 'Create Disc' and burn direct to DVD.

Repeat steps above for the Part 2 of your project.

Tip: Ensure you 'save as' for both Part 1 and Part 2 this way you will always have the original 'full' version to fall back on

Good Luck Happing editing

Best Regards

Yes, with my option #2 you would have to create a dvd menu for each of the two DVD's.

When you 1st use the produce file function to make a mpeg2 or avi, you will not have a dvd menu. You will simply produce a file that you can click on to play (stream) from your computer with no menu.

So you use that streaming file (mpeg2 or avi) in a new timeline then trim half of it and then create your dvd menu then burn to a dl-dvd. ( I like to burn to a dvd folder then later burn that folder to a dvd)

Good luck!
