power dvd 9 suddenly stopped playing blue ray disc says can't play media

I have Power DVD 9 Ultra installed on Windows 7 64 bit computer. I was able to play blu ray discs including Cars, Madagascar, etc. the last few months in 2010. The last 2 rentals Avatar and Ghost Writer (released 2010) do not play - I get 2 prompts to select region code and then I got up saying internal error (800401F9).

I then applied latest patch (available as of Jan 20, 2011) and now I get the same 2 prompts to select region code and then it says PowerDVD cannot play the media. Is this a media problem? I have not tried to get cars blu ray again as it would take a week or 2.

The problem is that Power DVD says (info tab) says that I have not selected region code and the number of changes is 0. I have always played North American blu ray discs on a North American system. I believe I may have been prompted to select region code even earlier (in 2010) but I never paid attention since it did not result in an error.

I have tried reinstalling power Dvd 9 and also the workaround someone posted in the forum about deleting LocalSettings with internet disconnected - These do not work.

Also I have Zone Alarm Firewall and Symantec Anti Virus if that makes any difference.

Please help.

Hi,

same problem here, i've updated today and now i'm not able to play my blue ray disc
anymore.
I've selected once region code B - yesterday everything was fine and the number of
code changes was 5.

Someone can help?

@Cyberlink: please support a fix for this problem.

Hi Michael,

ok, i'll try it :
My problem ist solved, but perhaps this will help.

PowerDVD ultra full Version 9.0.3608 (updated from 9.0.2102.0)
SR Number: DVD090828-03
Is your PowerDVD: bundles with HW

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit x86
Restricted user account - during setup with evelated rights

Used VGA driver version: NVIDIA GeForce 9300 8.15.11.9038
Connected via hdmi to a panasonic led-tv (single monitor)

Used Audio device driver version: Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.5898
The Audio setting in PowerDVD: Audio Output via SPDIF

ODD: HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CH08LS10 driver version 6.1.7600.16385 firmware: ???
Remaining DVD region code changes in the control panel of win7: 4

Antivirus: MS Security Essentials

Problem:
With PowerDVD 9.0.2102.0 everything works fine.
The amount of remaining region code changes for blue ray discs says 5, the selected
region code is B. su
My blue ray discs runs without problems.

After the update to version 9.0.3608 without any other changes the number of remaining
changes says 0, the selected region code is greyed out, nothing is selected and i'm not able
to select the region code B.

When i insert a blue ray discs, PowerDVD prompt me (it says: it's the first time i play
a blue ray discs) twice for a region code.
Then i get a message box which says PowerDVD cannot play the media.

A look at the region code settings: still the same like above (no code selected, remaining
changes 0)

My Solution: i've deinstalled PowerDVD complete and reinstalled it from the support
disc of my computer.
Now again with PowerDVD 9.0.2102.0 everything works fine.
Once again a look at the region code settings: region code B selected, remaining changes 5

Greetings

Markus

Same problem here, uninstall and reinstall worked yesterday. Today the problem appeared again.

Hi,
please post your DXDIAG for investigation.

kindly check if you have installed Daemon Tools - there is an compatibility issue that cause PowerDVD to fail to playback with DT installed.

Hi michael,
first of all: uninstall and reinstall did also work the second time, at least this workaround helps. Second: I do not have deamon tools installed (even though it was installed some time ago), I currently use "Virtual CloneDrive".

My dxdiag.txt is attached, I hope it helps.

Andreas

Hi,

The patch you installed is for the retail version only and not for the PowerDVD bundled with your PC.

Please disable the Clone Drive

Guys, is there any progress with this? I mean I pay 100 bucks and I cannot play my bought blu-rays with this "Software".

Don't tell users can play copy-protected discs!! Users can play *some* copy protected discs and reinstalling every time I buy a blu-ray is not an option.

This smells like fraud to me, sorry

HI I have been fighting these dreaded issues for a long time..Had PowerDVD7 (OEM) worked fine until it updated itself .... tec support gave up fixing it and gave me PowerDVD8 ....told me to
I would like to inform you that, in the previous E-mail, I have provided you the PowerDVD 8.0 BD 2ch OEM (build: 2217) and there is no updates available for this version.
and yet the sw insists that it needs an update ....I have removed the fiels etc as per instructions

(1) Please make sure that you are logged-in as an administrator.

(2) Rename "OLRSubmission" folder to UNOLRSubmission under C: \programs files\CyberLink\PowerDVD

(3) Also delete the file "EvoParser.dll" under C :\ProgramFiles\Cyberlink\PowerDVD

no difference.....

yet all plays with TMT (trial version)

It seems that the sw needs to update some licenses etc and that screws it up.

Total mess from PowerDVD ....loads of forums with these issues ranging across many versions.

I've waiting for a fix for ages ...

can you please post all the info asked:

I still have no clue what happens in your system - I have a similar one here and no issue with latest PDVD 10 v2701.

Please also add which titles you tested that fail.

I have a support ticket (QuestionID = CS000999676)
I think this is due to AACS updates but who knows.
I sent the email below on the support ticket.

I have removed PowerDVD8 and turned off Windows Firewall and also UAC for good measure. Disable the Internet adapter too. Deleted the .dll and renamed the folder too. Reinstalled and still it insists that I need to d/l the update before I carry on.
There is this entry below regards the problem below
If the OEM version cannot does not have updates how is it going to solve the issue of periodic updates ?

Many Thanks
Frank

Cause:
Blu-ray Disc titles have adopted AACS (Advanced Access Content System) to protect the digital content. AACS keys are required to play some Blu-ray Disc titles. AACS keys were integrated into your PowerDVD for copy protection purposes. Occasional renewal of the AACS key is required. This message appears because the title you're playing requires a newer AACS key.

Solution:

Click Yes on the message dialog to connect to the CyberLink Web site and download the updated version of PowerDVD for AACS keys renewal.
