Color to Black & White Transitions

Hi

I have downloaded the trial version of Powerdirector 9 which I intend to use for photo slideshows as part of my photography business. After playing with this program for a few hours, I would like to say that I am relatively happy with this program. I have two concerns that perhaps someone may be able to provide me with guidance in these areas.

My first concern is that I have fiddled with the features of this program to produce a color to black & White transition by copying a color image to a seperate track and adjusted the fade in on the first image and a fade out on the second image. I also removed the saturation of the second image for the conversion from color to black and white. I adjusted the fade markers on both the color and black and white images, trying to get a smooth transition between the two images, but I am afraid it is not smooth enough. Is there a simple whay to smoothly arrange a transition of the same photo from color to black & white? It is a nice effect to use at the end of the slideshow.

Also, it takes a while to convert my slideshow to Mpeg4. Is there a quick way to produce a slideshow, such as on an executable file? As I intend to use this program to produce and display photo slideshows in wedding receptions, I will need to ensure that the slideshow is produced quickly. Please advise if there is a quick way to produce Photo Slideshows on Power Director 9.

Thank you

Brand new to PD9, but had an idea that a vet user may be able to tell you if its possible or not.

If it is possible to fade out and fade in, to and from transparent on a photo, this may be a way to do it. If it is possible, this should do the trick.

Not sure if PD9 has that ability, but worth checking out.

As far as producing a slideshow quickly, without a bunch of editing, so you can go from the wedding to the reception and have photos from the wedding already playing in a slide show, I do know that PD9's slide show creator (Slideshow designer) can do it for you with very little effort. Check out the tutorials for PD7. There is a tutorial called "animated photo slideshow." May be your answer to quick slideshow production. You can have all your preferences already set and ready to go so you simply import the photos in to the timeline, click the slideshow button and a few more clicks and your done.

highlight the photo in the timeline. Click on the "fix/enhance" button (above the timeline). Choose colour enhancement. Click on "keyframe" and move the slider to the right (or wherever you want the transition to finish). This is then the end keyframe. Slide the saturation to the left. press play to see what it is like and you are done.

You can also get to this same area by using the keyframe button as well but uses drop down tabs instead.

The only really way to do it is to use the programme in preview mode and hope your PC is up to the task of playing it smoothly on the fly. Choose full hd preview before you launch the mediaviewer for best resolution. The buttons are below the preview screen. You can use the Slide show designer as Max mentions and the "preview" is generated quite quickly back into the time line.

Thank you Max and PJC for your help.

The keyframe function works perfectly. Unfortunately I don't think the preview function does what I want it to do. The quality of the images is not that good even on high preview resolution mode (I presume this is what you meant HD). Also, when I put on a slideshow, I don't wish for the slideshow controls to be in view when it is being played.

Perhaps Power Director is not the program I need after all. I quite like the program as I wanted to use it for my slide shows that also include short Movie Files using my HD Video funtion on my Digital SLR Camera. The previous slideshow program I was using (Proshow) does not enable me to view video files.

Do you have any suggestion on a slideshow program that will enable me to do what Pwer Director does plus the above?

Thank you & a happy new year to you all

David,

there are several slide-show programs out there. Some free, some you pay for.
There are also a few on-line possibilities, again some free- and some you pay for.
I think you would benefit of spending some time searching the net, you might
get surprised as to the variaty to choose from.
What most of us do, is try for ourselves, we pick-and-choose.
Now and then some of us find stuff we would like others to know, and we share.

You seem to have some prefrences, of course you would like for your photos to display the best.
Maybe you will experience, as most of us, that 1 program usually can't do everything.
And most likely not for 100 dollars.

Also, as you probably know, dealing/working with photo and video demands a great deal
from your computer. Many a newbie experiences problems caused by not having
enough power in graphic card, memory and processor.

Good luck!

Nina
